What performs well on Facebook ads; images or illustrations?

Hi, I do believe that WF is a place where some of the most experienced content strategists, copywriters, and ads specialists hang out.

I just require some of your views on what do you think which facebook ads will perform well -- the one with images or the one with illustrations?

I have personally found illustrations to be more intriguing and something COMPARITIVELY new-to-eyes (as far as online ads are concerned).

What is your personal choice? Do you prefer images? Or illustrations are your thing? Would love to know your say on this!

Thanks
Junaid

Well, my best suggestion would be to split test.

Run one ad with an image
then run the same ad but with an illustration or words

A/B testing is the best way to see what converts best.

Also if you arent already using this service, check out http://canva.com
they have fully customizable images that you can add images to or edit text etc.
They help you create the best looking post images in my opinion.

They even have a facebook ad template you can choose from. Best of all its FREE to use. Some images you will need to pay for though but they are only $1 per image.

    Hope this helped

Hi, thanks for your suggestions! Well, yeah I have tried canva for some instagram posts but there is no replacement better than using a professional designing software to design your posts!
Your idea of A/B testing is great. This is something I should try on all of my ads. Thanks for your insights.

This comes back to the old adage - test, test and test again! (OK, so it's not an old adage, I just made it up!) but it is once again, the most relevant response.

While the style of posts that are popular totally depends on your niche I did hear a couple of things in some professional development recently:

Posts with striking eyes always do well. Think a child with blonde hair and bright blue eyes or a mean and moody man with deep brooding brown eyes. It is these images which create a connection with the scroller that creates instant engagement and encourages sharing.

Personally, I prefer images and quotes that resonate with me over photos and text. But I am just one person in a large range of viewers.

The other thing I learnt...it's all about the video these days so if you can squeeze that third option into your content somehow, you should notice an increase in reach and engagement. But do test that first

    Good luck!!

I usually have an idea on what I think will work best - but I will usually grab 4-5 other images too, to this day i still usually get shocked on which one performs best - its rarely the one I think will go over best.

I do find in general for most of my niches that pictures with people in them work better than images without. I usually grab images from their free photo library

Hi, I couldn't resist commenting back on this. This means, most of the times what we think will work, never works. Maybe because we all are stimulated by different stimulus? Some find videos more intriguing and they click every God damn fb video that appears before them. While others prefer more of a still photography with nicely lit up smiling faces.

As the famous marketing rule goes "Ask your audience. Period."

      Thanks for your great insights!
