Help understanding Instagram hashtag campaigns, how does it work exactly?

I'm finally on Instagram, I make cute t-shirts for cool ladies and I would love to start getting some of them to post pictures of themselves wearing my clothes.

I noticed some people have tagged my business name already with a # but as far as I can tell there is no way to add those photos to my Instagram profile.

I read that the photos will show up in my profile if some uses the @ symbol and my username.

So what am I missing? I want to do a contest or something and have people use a hashtag on Instagram but what good is it if I can't share those photos with my followers?

Help?! (I'm dumb)

Thank you!

Ask your followers to use @ and your username in their comment as well as the #. Also ask them to click 'tag people' when uploading and add your @ name there too.

That way you will have access to their photos (they'll appear in the 'photos of you' section) so you can share them. People searching for your hashtag will also see them, and people following them will know how to follow you by following the @ in their comments.

Hope that makes sense and good luck with your campaign!

oh, okay thank you! so I am browsing around instagram today and I see that nobody seems to actually say to add the @ username they just say to add the # hashtag - so is that just something that the users will already know to do?

        Hi Bleu,

Not at all, this is something that you'll need to mention.

One thing I've learnt from social media is to never assume that your audience know to do anything!!

Definitely mention to them to put @ in their photos as it means that people who like their photo can just click on the @ followed by your name and they'll go directly to your page.

If they use the # only, they'll be shown a load of photos from people who have tagged you too.

Always suggest that people use the @

If people who you have looked at aren't doing this, then you can rest easy in the fact that you're one step ahead of them

  • You can also use tools like Regrann to "repost" these photos in your feed.

First of all, you need to promote your business through Instagram by posting attractive images of your products. If you have customers who purchased your t-shirts then you can convince them to post their images showing your tag. It could help you in your promotion, even it impacts a lot on the viewers of it.

Run a contest on your store to augment the sales of your business and post an interesting quote with hashtag and invite others to post it in their comment box. The more it get viral, the more your hashtag will be in trending for the day.
