Sending cold messages on facebook?

So I want to create awareness of a new web/business directory page, and I have a lot of different stuff I wanna do. Theres about 3000 people I wanna get in touch with, and I have made a list with their contact info.

Could I also reach out to them on facebook messages? Just write a little bit about what the page is about and why it would be useful to them? Or is that considered very rude or even illegal?

  • It's not rude or illegal, but you do have to be careful. Send out too many messages and you could be blocked for spamming.

It is not worthing. After sometime, your accounts will get banned due to the reports from some users.

Also, your message won't end on the "inbox" but instead on "message requests".

You should better create a FB group and invite people on that group.

Yeah, that's right, you can create the new group then add your contacts. Always getting engaged your group. And then create a facebook page as well.

Facebook.com is a great palce for advertising your website, It's not rude or illegal if you post any legal or right informative post on their wall. Be careful to post. Don't post excessive. Because, Someone will block you if u you post many on their wall. Thanks.

As everyone suggested If you send too many messages you may get a block soon.
Also if those users are not your friends then those messages will land into "Message Request" section instead of "Inbox"

Don't do it! Sending out cold messages is a great way to get a ban from Facebook. I learned the hard way about a year ago. I was just reaching out to some local businesses, but got banned for 30 days from sending messages. They didn't give me a notice or anything just a ban. Mark it up as a lesson learned!

You'll definitely get banned because a lot of people don't like random messages from strangers and there is a higher probability that they will report you. Therefore focus on other options like setting up a facebook page, paying for advertisement on Fb or start a blog on the side to talk about the stuff you're offering.

IMO, it's not a good idea to send messages to your contacts. Other people might be creeped out by this, and as a result, would report you as spam or block you.

Try to avoid them only send them out to users you consider to be in your contact lists or in your regular interactions. Otherwise it can have serious consequences by getting you blocked and reported. In worst cases it can lead to your profile/page being banned permanently so try to refrain from this practice. Why has the need arose for you to resort to such tactic?

If you have their email ids you can contact them via mails. Make sure you are not sending the same message to everyone rather personalizing each and everyone of them.

You can take the slower but more beneficial approach by following them first. Then if they follow build rapport before you pitch

You'd be much better off using Twitter to do this, the platform lends itself to the kind of outreach you want to do. As far as I'm aware, you won't get banned for it!

If it's not just a random advertisement message, and you don't send out too many all at once, then you should be fine for quite some time. I wouldn't send out the same message all the time though, just mix up the way you're writing it so it doesn't look like an ad.

I would advise against it because it would end up unopened in the other folder in the inboxes, and in case they open it, many will just consider it a spam.

I would suggest creating an offer your target audience would be interested in (e-book, guide, or report) and capture e-mails. Use facebook ads to amplify the reach of this offer. If they opt-in you could continue providing valuable content thru their e-mail based on what specific businesses would they be interested in having updates about from your new web/business directory page.
