When to boost Facebook posts

As we all know Facebook now extend the reach of the posts of your visitors page to a very limited audience indeed.

This is so they can offer excellent service to their users and only show the posts that they think their users want to see. Because there is so much content out there, people were previously missing the content that was relevant to them such as family and friends posts.

So, aside from creating compelling, engaging and riveting content (which is a given that you're doing anyway ) I thought I'd share a couple of pointers of WHEN to pay to boost a post. I constantly look at the 'sponsored' posts coming through my news feed and wonder why on earth anyone thought it was a good idea to spend money on promoting it to a wider audience!!

Here are a few things to make sure you have in check before you click the 'boost' post and if you don't, I'd save your money!

1) Make sure your post points to your website.
So many people assume that their audience will know how to contact them if they want to. This isn't the case! Human beings are simple creatures and need to be hand held every step of the way. Point them to your website which is where the money is, and give them something to get stuck into once they get there.

2) Make an offer.
Does your post have an offer? Does it give them something for FREE? HALF PRICE? LAST CHANCE TO BUY? Anything that will create the magical click to the website needs to be on a post before you spend your precious dollars.

3) Choose a good image.
Choose an image that represents your business. your brand and your product well. Don't forget to put a logo on there too for consistency.
Posts with an image have a much higher engagement rate than those without so don't spend your money if you're not giving your audience a helping hand to begin with.

4) Select your audience carefully.
If you're someone that clicks 'my friends and their friends' then you're wasting your time. The post is going out to so many people that any responses that you do get will be diluted. Select your target market carefully form the list of options which include gender, age and location of your audience, for maximum results.

Just a couple of tips to make sure you're only paying to boos the most effective of your posts - does anyone have anything to add that I've missed?
