Reasons why your social media campaign will fail

This is mainly for the newbies out there starting out with digital marketing campaigns.

Weve all been there, we need to create a digital marketing campaign on social media and get our product or service noticed online on social media channels. Its all about getting shares, like and leads and you need to get some serious return for outlaying the cash for the advertising.

Social media is a huge winner for some campaigns and can kick goals but for others the campaigns fizzle out dismally.

Social media campaigns could fail for a range of reasons including:

Poor targeting
If youre new to this you may not have realised the tremendous important of getting your targeting right. Its absolutely imperative to have your demographics, psychographics and pain points all on point. Knowing what your customers are struggling with and how to solve it will make a massive difference in how your message is received by your target audience.

Poor tracking system of visitors on your website
If you get the lead to then click on the link to your website what are they doing next? Have you got an effective tracking system on your website to find out their movements? No, youre mad.

Tag your URLS with urchin tracking modules and find out what your new lead from social media does, where they may stop and their journey on your website. There is so much information to be gained and if you dont have a tracking system you are basically throwing away this valuable information.

Your website or landing page is pretty crap
Weve all landed on a page from clicking on a link and been pretty underwhelmed. Ensure your landing page fits your message and makes visitors want to take action.

Poor title and content for your ad
You dont have heaps of space on Facebook in particular for words, so make all your characters count. Get into your customer persona and figure out which words really motivate your target to act. Stay relevant and make sure you spend just as much time on your ad content than you do on any other element of your ad campaign.

Visuals that dont pop
Why are you using lackluster images that arent jumping out at your target audience. Images are very important and you should make sure that get your message across at a glance. Avoid expected images and add something that will jump out and get the attention of your audience.

No call to action
What exactly do you want your target audience to do - are they signing up for a 30 day free trial, are they clicking to download a free ebook .. make it really clear what you want them to do and why. Add the whats in it for me factor to your ad.

This is by no means a conclusive list, feel free to add in any other things to consider for newbies or anyone setting up social media campaigns for that matter.
