Reasons why your social media campaign will fail

This is mainly for the newbies out there starting out with digital marketing campaigns.

Weve all been there, we need to create a digital marketing campaign on social media and get our product or service noticed online on social media channels. Its all about getting shares, like, leads and conversions and you need to get some serious return for outlaying the cash for the advertising.

Social media is a huge winner for some campaigns and can kick goals but for others the campaigns fizzle out dismally.

Social media campaigns could fail for a range of reasons including:

Poor targeting
If youre new to this you may not have realised the tremendous important of getting your targeting right. Its absolutely imperative to have your demographics, psychographics and pain points all on point. Knowing what your customers are struggling with and how to solve it will make a massive difference in how your message is received by your target audience.

Poor tracking system of visitors on your website
If you get the lead to then click on the link to your website what are they doing next? Have you got an effective tracking system on your website to find out their movements? No, youre mad.

Tag your URLS with urchin tracking modules and find out what your new lead from social media does, where they may stop and their journey on your website. There is so much information to be gained and if you dont have a tracking system you are basically throwing away this valuable information.

Your website or landing page is pretty crap

Weve all landed on a page from clicking on a link and been pretty underwhelmed. Ensure your landing page fits your message and makes visitors want to take action.

Poor title and content for your ad
You dont have heaps of space on Facebook in particular for words, so make all your characters count. Get into your customer persona and figure out which words really motivate your target to act. Stay relevant and make sure you spend just as much time on your ad content than you do on any other element of your ad campaign.

Visuals that dont pop
Why are you using lacklustre images that arent jumping out at your target audience. Images are very important and you should make sure that get your message across at a glance. Avoid expected images and add something that will jump out and get the attention of your audience.

No call to action
What exactly do you want your target audience to do - are they signing up for a 30 day free trial, are they clicking to download a free ebook .. make it really clear what you want them to do and why. Add the whats in it for me factor to your ad.

Feel free to add in any other things to consider for newbies or anyone setting up social media campaigns for that matter.

I agree with all the reasons you have talked about, specially on the ones regarding web design, there are so many tools and things you can use to improve your website and to have a better tracking on the user experience, but a lot of web designers insist on using old techniques and designs.

Everytime I meet a webdesigner that is no using any tracking system, or that is not using facebook pixel or stuff like that, im really dissapointed, and I know I shouldnt work with them.

The competition is using all the tools they can find on their website, if you dont do that as well, you are doomed.

Yep, agreed - the tracking is key and user experience should be at the top of the list.

There are heaps of tools out there (some free) so it's worth using them to get a leg up on the competition.

Once of the biggest things I see people fail at time and time again is the targeting especially geographically - I constantly see ads that are clearly not targeting me on Facebook - I can't imagine the budget that is being wasted on these sort of campaigns and how much wasted opportunity the business is missing.

The reason that the most of the websites do not get any traffic is, because first they have poor web design and second they do not offer useful contents. For writing a successful content, the content writers need to do some research, so that they could offer unique contents. Having duplicate contents is useless because users always have the option of other websites.
Another reason of failed marketing campaign is the loading speed of the website. Users do not use the website that takes too long to load. Having a good website loading speed is also important for driving more users to the website.

      Yep, agree with your comments.

A good theme and obviously a nice site helps both navigation and engagement and without good content no one is going to both staying on the page either.

I was specifically talking about social media campaigns, however this is an element of it as well especially when you are trying to generate leads via landing pages.

The speed of the website is also a factor and also whether it is mobile optimised.

      Thanks for your comment.

Using social media is just not a particular list of tools the place you chronologically publish everything you see fit on FB, Twitter, LinkedIN etc. All depends greatly around the mix of the tools, when and exactly how you use them. Many companies will still be not accustomed to that Social Media is actually a dynamic and live dialogue which every concern and consider has to be dealt with from the market. It can not work only to publish a static message just like a retraction and hope that Social Media will calm down.

Also, when it comes to properly buying Social Media Marketing and knowing what to do, companies need so that you can measure a return of investment on Social Media Marketing activities. This is a huge problem to date were a lot of companies claim they may measure Social ROI, however they can't. But this issue is incredibly soon going to get solved at the same time with new technology
