A Scary Theory: Google Becomes the Content Killer!!

Here's a scary thought. Just a thought, for now, but let's see how realistic it is. We all know that if you want to make friends with Google, you have to create original content, don't we? That's not such a big deal. It's not right now. You just have to make sure that you use original word combinations. You can even borrow someone else's ideas, but if you describe it in your own words, then Google wouldn't mind, although your readers may.

Now, imagine our lovely World Wide Web ten, twenty, or fifty years from now. We are talking about the near or distant future. It depends. At one point in time, despite your greatest efforts and most noble intentions, you won't be able to upload new content. Why? Because, Google will treat your content as a plagiarized one. I know what you are going to say. The content itself isn't a game of chess. You may predict all possible combinations and moves in a game of chess, but there's no way you can predict all possible word combinations in a text. I totally agree, but as always, there's a catch.

The available word combinations you may use could be seriously limited in the near future. There are some combinations, let's call them phrases, that are already taken. You don't pay attention to them right now, but the new content is being produced and uploaded at an unparalleled rate these days. I can't even imagine how many new books, articles, blogs, and similar, are being delivered online every single second. For the time being, plagiarism tools such as Copyscape and Google are being more or less tolerant. This also includes your readers. But, what if and when the following happens?

Let's take the mega-popular phrase "show me the money," as an example. We all know this is something that belongs to Tom Cruise and Jerry Maguire. So, if you use this phrase in your text, you aren't going to be stigmatized as someone who is in plagiarism business. On the contrary, if you find a perfect spot for it in your text, this phrase can make you look cool to your readers. I think that even Google is not going to be angry at you and your website. However, if you put this phrase alone in Copyscape, you will get some warning signs that you plagiarized something. So, in the future, if you say something like "You should show me the money," Google may treat this construction as plagiarized because the most of it is already in circulation online. I'm fully aware that this is a crazy theoretical speculation. On the other hand, this doesn't mean that this SF scenario isn't going to be far from our reality forever.

Some people may say that we are light years away from the moment that everything you can possibly imagine has already been used or published online. Yet, we have had quite a few scary reminders how the unimaginable becomes quite realistic in our brave new cyber world. Maybe Google will accept this new reality and change its algorithms accordingly. Maybe Google will say, sorry only new content allowed, but since all content you can possibly imagine is already in use, you can't add new content. And, little by little Google becomes the least expected content killer in the history.

Maybe this crazy and scary theory is nothing more than a theory, or an unwanted prediction. I don't think I will be around to find out myself. But, this forum and this thread can become an interesting time capsule some day in the future. Just tell me what you think. Crazy or scary or both? Stupid or brilliant or both? This theory definitely needs a second opinion, doesn't it?

Thank you for your share, but can you please comment the theory itself. Is it a realistic one? What do you think?
