1. Crowdsourcing is the Best Business

Provide a platform for people to do what they already want to do. Facebook makes communication easier. The easiest way to look for ideas is to list down all the problems that you have and then come up with a list of all the possible solutions that you can think of for each problem. You're bound to find a business idea that you can do, or you'll find another related idea to make it into a business. EXAMPLE: Problem: I need a good house cleaner...Do my immediate friends and family members have the same problem? (Ask around casually) Could I become a part-time house-cleaner? Could I become an agent for the good part-time house-cleaner I found? ... Get the creative juices flowing!!

Ideally, you should be in your own target audience so you'll be able to understand the problem very intimately and know which solution would appeal most. It's hard to get into somebody else's mind.

2. Start with the Audience

This is closely related to the 1st point. Research potential customers before you start anything. You can start with your own problem, which led to a solution that became a business idea that you want to explore. Then talk to your closest friends and ask them if they face the same problem. It's very likely that they do because your friends would very likely be like you, or they wouldn't be your friends. Bakers hang out with bakers. Bodybuilders hang out with bodybuilders etc etc etc...Abracadabra, you've got a ready audience...

Tell your friends that you thought of starting such and such a business and ask them if they've got customers to recommend. Better yet, make business cards and pass them around! Some of them may want to be your customers...
