You Tube ranking question ?

I have read that to assist with ranking a video on You Tube it helps to have the key words also listed as part of the video file name before you upload it. Makes sense. My question if this - if you have a video that is already up on YT and you want to change the video's file name to include the key words is it possible to do so? I have several videos I uploaded a while ago and I would like to make this change if possible. i did not see how it could be accomplished in my YT account

Thanks for your assistance.

There is no way to change the file name without uploading a new video.

If you only have a few views then it may make sense to re-upload but there are other ways to get some of the keywords you are targeting in there.

Things like using annotations or captions along with a transcription of the video in the description.

You could add another video and make it a related video of the existing one and also create playlists.

Do some backlinking stuff from other video sites.

Embed the video on sites that have the targeting you want.

There are many other things to do also.

    best regards,

    Ozi

      Hello there,

Ozi's right. If it won't be much of a big deal to reupload your video, then do so. Then, apply all the steps Ozi has recommended. In this way, your Youtube video can be found on search engines. Don't forget to share your vid as well on your social networking sites - helps with the increase of views. Use the right tags as well!

      Good luck!

There are many techniques to rank youtube videos in search reasult...first of all, you must create origital content, dont copy from another site. second, you have to write catchy title and you must use at least 5 tag in your tag option and must use attractive thumbnail.. please use social media to increase traffic .and most important you must use subscribe button on your screen.

Unfortunately mate you can't change the file name once it has been uploaded.

But, this is one piece of the puzzle in the entire ranking strategy.

Or you can do one thing: Change the already uploaded video title as:
    Health Tips Part 1 (Example)

Then upload another video (now you can change the video file name) as
    Health Tips Part 2.

This way your channel will get some fresh content (YouTube loves content)
and also try to create interlinking between your videos to get some amazing
    ranking benefit.

Thanks for the answer to my question which is what I thought - the file name cannot be changed after the video is uploaded.

Also thanks for the other very useful tips, much appreciated.

If you are asking this question then I'm assuming that your video doesn't have many views and it's not ranking correct?

If that's the case just delete it. Change the title of your video to match the keyword that you are trying to rank for.

Don't just "rename" the video on the front end, also right click on the video and go to "properties" and change stuff in there as well.

Have your video transcoded from video to text or do it yourself, so you can upload that file to youtube in the settings section.

Also, add the transcoded text in your description along with links to whatever you are promoting. Add in your main keywords also under the transcoded text in the description. See the example below...

Let's say your trying to rank the video for a business name SurfBoard Florida then your keywords at the bottom would look something like this...

Ex. SurfBoard Florida | Surf boards in flordia | Flordia Surfboards | Surfing shop in Florida

Just don't use too many and look spammy. You will also want to make sure in your descriptions and in the video itself, that the words also "say what the title of the video is"

And here's the MAIN KICKER! Use software to make the Video a LIVE video, a live video will rank way higher on youtube then a normal upload.

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers,

As long as the video is uploaded there is no way to change the name of the file again. Maybe you should try deleting the video and re-uploading it again. That is if you haven't spent time and money building backlinks and buying views etc.

You can make changes to your video using the video's Info and Settings page.
On the Info and Settings page, you'll see three tabs, depending on your account type:
Basic info: Change video title, description, tags, category, privacy. Note: You can use most characters to fill in the information in video fields (like title or description), except angle brackets.

It's doubtful the filename has any influence on ranking.

Keywords in titles, tags, descriptions, closed captions, etc., determine relevancy more than ranking. Relevancy will determine the other videos your own video will compete against for engagement.

Engagement is things like accumulated watch time, session watch time and viewer retention. In today's Youtube environment, people need to watch your videos for them to continually rank well. When first starting a channel, you need to choose keywords with little competition.

YT may then rank them to give them a chance to see their engagement. If people watch your video, the rank will increase. If people don't watch your video and bail on it, your ranking will drop. Do people watch your video more, or less than other videos for the same keywords?

If a video doesn't rank for certain keywords, change them. Remember that Youtube can takes weeks before it takes into account any changes. So if a video still doesn't rank a month after any changes, change the keywords again and more on.

Also, you aren't going to make any headway with a video or two. You need to make a bunch of good videos if you really want any decent results from Youtube marketing. If you aren't willing or able to create a bunch of good videos, you're very likely wasting your time with Youtube.

I suggest that you pick good keywords and make videos people want to watch and don't worry about the file name.
