Facebook Ad/Set Optimization

I'm still in the beginning stages of Facebook Advertising, but have done quite some campaigns as off now ( with terrible conversion rates ) but the costs per clicks have gone down to some times $0.25 of cause that all only counts when I have sales but I guess with those low costs per clicks I can scale up ( for T-Shirt sales , Clicks To Website ) now.

My question is : How do I optimize / scale up the ad sets ?

Am I looking for the cheapest age group and and cut out the other age groups and if more men then women click the link , am I only start promoting to men?

I think you can try video ads. I have every reason to believe they would convert well now that it appears like they autoplay on almost every social media site. If you feel this is the best option for you, I can help you with it. Here is a sample I did:

I am also on fiverr as fiverr.com/kawabunga

Decide upon your target audience before boosting the post.
Post should be very interactive yet simple.
Check for the facebook ad guides & facebook grid tool that validates your post. Images you choose should be of high quality.

Try to target to your potential audiences, not only for their ages but also their interest, their places, their gender,...and many other factors. Beside the targeting, I think you should focus on your ad content, if it's interesting enough, you will get many engagement then the cost will be decreased. IMO
