Taking over Instagram! (or at least an account)

Funny I came across the following today:

See, an Instagram takeover is the process of taking over someone elses Instagram account temporarily and sharing content with their audience.

And 2 days ago I found this post on my kid's account:

"hey guys. im the new admin,Alysha. im sorry i make crappy videos💩"

Odd, thought I, so I asked him what was the deal... and Alysha is helping him out.

Or... she took over his account!

Okay well she didn't (as marketers would define it). But....

Sounds so dramatic, doesn't it?

Anywhos, marketing-wise, an Instagram takeover is when someone else posts on your account to share and colloborate ideas.

But there's more apparently:

"Takeovers started with brands allowing other Instagrammers to post photos to their feeds for a short period of time and have continued to evolved alongside Instagrams feature set. Video, Stories and live video updates have all added new, and exciting, dimensions to Instagram takeovers.

Why do takeovers work so well?

According to Gary Vaynerchuk, a well-known entrepreneur and social media marketer:

'These takeovers are not only fun, but are also a great example of a 50/50 value exchangea partnership thats mutually and equally beneficial.'"

In other words, help each other grow each other's brands.

I can handle that.
