Why do people give their personal data to Facebook?

I just started a Facebook account to create a FB page for my site. As soon as I opened my account and clicked create a page I get a message saying I had to upload my photo because my account has seen suspicious activity. I had only opened the account literally a minute earlier. LOL

Even if I upload a photo, how in the world they would know if the photo is genuinely me?

Is this just another method of extracting as much of our personal data/info as possible?

I can't believe so many people out there give away all their data to Facebook without ever giving it a minute's thought.

Also, why can't you open a FB company profile without giving your personal data?

It's very odd that you would immediately get a response regarding suspicious activity. The first thing I would think is that maybe there is an issue with your IP address.

If facebook suspects your account is fake, they may ask for photo ID. Which needs to match with the account. They have even required some users to take a picture of themselves holding the ID to verify that the ID is real.

Because FB doesn't want their site littered with a bunch of spam profiles.

They actually want real people...what a novel concept.

People give their personal data to Facebook just because they have full belief in the social platform, considering that it is the No.1 social networking site in the world with an Alexa Rank of 2 that is just behind Google...

That's really interesting topic and everyone has their own opinion. As far as your point is concern, yes facebook wants real account instead of company named account. For companies, they have fan page which you can create from your personal profile. So I think FB is right in this case. On the contrary, people provide their personal details for personal profile as well. Its I think a mutual agreement. People want FB to be free so FB choose the different revenue model where they make money by showing you relevant ads. In return as a user, I get free service of Facebook where I can connect with family and friends which is incredible as I find and connect with lot of people who met me past in my life and I get to know what they do. Apart from that I also find many interesting businesses through ads which really interesting and useful in my life. So for me its win win for both of us. That's my take anyways. Others can have their own.

I also got the same problem with Facebook recently. I had an old account closed myself some years ago, and I wanted to create a FB page to promote my new business, so I created a new account, and as soon as I clicked FB developper tools my account was blocked and I got a nice message asking to send my ID documents.

What a great joke. Of course, they can keep my account closed I'm not gonna upload anything. I believe they don't want my money.

This is not possible but if this happened then maybe your account does not fulfill the facebook policies. You have to contact with facebook support team. Maybe it will help you.

Not necessarily real ,real info. You could always trick or find another work around regarding those Facebook requests.

Typical. The more FB knows about you, the better they can allow marketers to laser target their prospects.

It's funny how many people (outside of the marketing world) don't even realize what's really going on with the social networks.

To be fair is great that so many people give allot of information to facebook.
Thats why we when we are doing Ads on facebook can target very well our audience. And we place our ads only yo the people that matters with pin point accuracy.

I have some lists that with pixel working i can get interactions at 0.02 cents per interaction because they are so optimized.

Their choice. Can't say. But it's good for us to target our viewers based on their likes, age etc. We can increase traffic to our websites through that.
