Twitter is a great source of traffic for your website. I monetize this traffic in 3 different ways:
    1. Through getting subscribers to my email list. After joining my email list, I promote affiliate products to them.
    2. Through Adsense ads.
    3. Through ad space I sell to the big players of the same niche. I use the traffic I get from Twitter to keep my visitors numbers high and get better deals for my ad space.

But does twitter really result in serious traffic ?

      I mean....

I am relying only on my pinned tweet to get people to my optin page

It depends if your using twitter as an auto feed or a personalized account. Pinned tweets build up traffic over time.

Personalized tweets with trending hashtags drives impressions. It's hard to convert those to sites etc. Tweeting live during video shows drives up impressions. I think twitter works better for personal brands vs a brand.

          Hey thanks

          That was a great insight

          Personal Vs Brand

I had never thought about this. I am currently using my logo and my business bio on twitter

It depends on the number of your followers. With the 700 ppl that follow you, if you get 5-10 clicks on posts that are related to their interests you should be fine.

You will see these numbers increase as your followers become more. Just two things you should take into account:
        1. Do not spam them. I usually add 6 links to my older posts and one to an affiliate product I promote. In the meantime I like, retweet, comment on other ppl's tweets.
        2. Just drive your followers to quality content. Content is really king, and if you want to keep them interacting with your offers, you should send them to really good blog posts.

          Thanks

I am trying to balance between posting my own blog content links and retweeting others

I think for getting more fast traffic for your email marketing funnel. You have to work on few parts.
1 - Relevancy - Generate relevance follower according to your business need.
2 - Your Follower - You simply have to talk to your follower through your tweet or direct message.
3 - Content- Provide your follower the same thing that really they need or talk about those topic about which they really want to know.
4 - Talk about your Services - Talk about your services to those people who engage with your content.

I wrote my own Twitter bot, very customised around football and had a lot of luck promoting bet365. I had 200,000 followers across 100 accounts then I messed my proxies up and got a mega ban wave. Botting is a dangerous game, high risk, high reward.

You need more followers. Follow a lot of people and unfollow those who haven't follow back you.
You can use ManageFiter to unfollow all the non-followers.
Share again and again informative and important posts ob Twitter.

To follow up, I think twitter is great for an authority social media platform where you could network, and share your opinions along side news cycles. So you build your personal brand up in that way. I currently run a twitter account for a company and it's a totally different animal, where as much as you try to run it as a company brand it isn't personal. So I run it like it's a person, but even that has only certain reach. Only news orgs or mags could tweet like they are corps and people are ok with it. Adult Swim for example as a brand could be good on twitter with bump in ties for example. But the bottom line is twitter is great for personal branding and authority building, but a different senerio per company brand.

They recently upped to 280 characters, and it wasn't just to make it easier for people, but they have opened the doors to allow for greater ad copy =$$$$$$ So we shall see how that works

I follow this approach:When tweeting links, never give too much away about the content in the body of your tweet.
If a reader can guess the entire story simply from reading your tweet, why would they click your link to read more?
Frame your tweets to highlight both the benefit of the content and to generate curiosity. And speak plainly, eliminating the use of complicated words.
