What would you pay for Social Media Management?

A friend and I are thinking about helping Small Businesses (you would not believe how many in our county alone, who still don't have this) and Internet Marketers start and/or maintain their Social Media. We tried looking online to see what other companies where charging, but they were either very vague or crazy expensive. So we wanted to find out from you guys.

If you didn't already have a FB/Twitter/Pinterest/etc account, how much would you pay for someone to set it up for you and maintain it for the 1st month?
How much would you be willing to pay for 3 postings a week, so about 12 postings a month on FB? (We were considering $200p/m for this)

It would depend. Would you do any advertising at all to get the page going? or consult on how to do so or have an upsell where I could buy a package for that as well?

$200 a month doesn't sound unreasonable but I would expect a little more than setting up the accounts. Just because everyone knows someone that could help them getting started on their own pages but I think where you bring value to the table is posting 3 times a week. That seems more valuable to me then the accounts because I always say "I'll post every other day" then life happens.... I would be willing to pay $200 a month if you posted to all accounts 3 times a week.

My honest suggestion and others may disagree, but I would have a cheaper "start up package" to set up accounts. Then Charge monthly with varying packages for posting. 3x a week to all account $200 or 2x a week for $135 and maybe 1x a week $80. Those are just random prices I didn't do the math to see if they make sense but That's how I would approach it myself.

This is only my opinion as a small business owner myself. I would be more interested in knowing how many people you could reach in X months if I were to hire you.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks for your input. In response to some points you had, yes we would have a variety of packages one could choose from.

Example: FB setup, monthly mgt (with the 3 posts a week) could be $200, but if you wanted to add advertising, you would add a minimum of $50 (anything less is just not significant). We can consult how to best use your $50 (use it all at once or split it into different campaigns) but that would put you at $250, but your advertising budget would all depend on you. Or for $300 you get everything I just mentioned and we add Twitter postings.

Also for the $200 we would interact with customers comments on FB and IM, providing a sort of customer service and immediately notify you if there are any negative comment posted regarding your service or product. That's why it would cost a little more at add other accounts, cause we would do the same. We would also consult on which accounts you actually need, not all business need all of them.

      What do you think??

I know of a new, and therefore small, business that just started social media. Paying $600 for instagram, pinterest and facebook. 3 postings a week, includes 1 ad per platform per month.

      Thanks DABK!

If you take a look at my hypothetical pricing, by the time you add two more accounts to it, we probably would have been at about $500 ( $250 for FB with ad, $100 for Twitter, $100 for Pinteret or Instragram = $450) Now if you add advertising for another min. of $50 for Twitter ad, you get $500.

Is that a little better in terms of pricing??

Pricing has to do with what you can get, the value they think they get.

        And location.

In my area, 600 for 3 is a tad above average but not high, for small outfits (1 to 3 people) if you get good results. I don't know what the big boys charge.

I suggest you talk a friend who owns a business like your would-be clients to get 3 or 4 proposal.

        Then test.

You should have 3 packages. One that gives little (say one platform) for $250, 2 platforms for $450 and the one you mentioned at $600 but you can get it at $500 if you start this week.

Makes your third one look desirable.

Or $350 1 platform, $500 3 platforms, $1,000 (includes a gazzillion things that, should anyone want to buy would make you happy to sell, but you're providing it only to make them understand that the $500 one is an awesome yet affordable plan). The first one is going to be perceived at too expensive, the third one too expensive (but that does not mean that some people would not buy the 1st or 3rd, just that most would have an easier time saying yest to the middle one).

I have priced things both ways, that's how it worked for me. I stood by some of the people who bought while they were deciding: it's an interesting spectacle, especially with the first version, if they never thought they needed anything remotely like the big package.

        Your packaging could also be:
        Facebook alone: $350
        Twitter alone: $200
        Pinterest alone: $200

All 3: $500. All of these would work for businesses that need all 3 (by need, I mean benefit). So, a wedding dress shop will say no to your package. They'd say yes to facebook, pinterest and instagram.

I am saying, create different packages for different businesses too.

If cost of living in your area is similar to what it is where I am and your greed level is like mine, what you propose is a good starting point.

I use to work for a marketing company tht charged $600 a month for 2 facebook and twitter posts a week. They were the same post for both facebook and twitter. They had a lot of clients.

I would look at the long term recurring. You can set posts up in advance using HootSuite. Minimal work for a nice reward.

I wouldn't even charge for set up. Take payments upfront, easy to do recurring payments with easy digital downloads or restrict content pro. They don't pay, you don't post. That way you aren't chasing payments and you get that $600 the first time to help pay for banners and such for social accounts.
