Facebook ad clicks not going to website

I made a Facebook ad to direct people to my website, however, in order to have the ad show up in news feeds, I had to show the ad as coming from my business's Facebook page. The problem is that even though I have had some link clicks, Google Analytics is not showing any traffic to my site from this ad campaign.

I have had some new likes on my business's Facebook page from out of state, which leads me to believe that when people click on my ad, they are going to my Facebook page instead of my website. I'm wondering if they're clicking at the top of the ad where it lists the name of my Facebook page instead of the "Learn More" button on the ad.

My website is a membership site, so what I need is for people to come to the site and join.

Using Facebook ad campaigns, how do I get traffic from Facebook to the website?

    Hi Jen,

Facebook is a social network, people come to Facebook to checkup on friends and family, they are not there to look for your membership site. So direct response might not be the best approach for your business on Facebook ads. Instead, try engaging with them socially first, then invite them to your website for a closer look.

Stick with the tried and true approach and lead your audience from their socially engage phase into your marketing funnel. AIDA (Awareness, Interest, Desire, Action).

Create a number of Facebook posts to get people aware of the issues that your business provides a solution for, then engage with those that express an interest. Let people know why they might need a membership. Let them know why your website might be the idea solution, and encourage them to visit to learn more.

If people have never heard of you before they will often want to learn more about you before that make the commitment to leave Facebook's website and visit your website. Try creating a stream of posts on your FB page that will generate curiosity and interest in your website and then make an occasional post inviting users to visit your website.

Facebook has a vested interest in keeping users on Facebook, so they are in effect competing with you for the same audience. They want your audience to stay on FB, you want them to leave and come to your website. You have to have a value proposition that is more appealing to your audience than remaining on FB. So you might need to work on improving your ads message to make it more appealing to FB users.

If you are willing to share the content of your ad I'd be happy to look at it and offer advice.

Finally, it could be possible that analytics hasn't been properly implemented using the correct URL parameters in your ad. Are you using the Google Analytics URL Builder to create URL parameters for your Facebook Ads?

    HTH,
