List of Instagram abbreviations and acronyms!
Since I'm new to this forum I figured I can provide some value by listing all the Instagram abbreviations, acronyms and general slang words I've picked up through the years.
If you have any suggestions or words I missed please feel free to contribute.
Non-specific terms
These are terms not specific to Instagram but commonly used in the industry.
FOMO = Fear of Missing Out. Common strategy when cross-promoting pages/products. Example: "Follow fast he's going private in 10 mins!"
LMK = Let Me Know. pretty self explanatory.
Promo = promotion, generally used when talking abouts advertisements.
Bio = Biography of a page
Niche = The theme/category of a page.
Example: I'm in the Surfing Niche.
Gains = Follower growth, usually said when growth is hogher than normal.
Bleed = Opposite of gains, when a page is losing followers.
Instagram specific terms
These are terms pretty much only used in the Instagram community.
S4S/SFS = Shoutout for Shoutout, term for cross-promoting two pages to increase followers.
A4A/AFA = Same thing but with advertisements. You promote my product I promote yours.
L4L / LFL = Third times the charm, same as the two terms above but with likes.
Pod = A group of similar pages that comment/like on each others posts to increase engagement.
DM Group = Same as above
Engagement Group / EG = Same as above
Stat Page = A page with a high amount of followers and likes, usually 100k+.
Example: I'm looking to buy a stat page, budget is $1500.
D = done, usually said after posting an ad or a shoutout to let the other person know it's uploaded.
Re = Return, term used in DM groups after engaging with the other pages and you want them to return the favor.
Explore Page = the tab labeled with a magnifying glass.
Example: I hit the explore page 3 times in a row yesterday, life is good.
Rounds = Automated chats (usually on telegram) that work similar to DM groups except a round is time specific.
Example: "Next round starts in 10 minutes, drop your username to enter"
Powerliker = Automated bots where people enter their accounts and receive likes from all the other pages automatically as they post.
Turbo = Software tools that grabs usernames faster than any human. Usually used when selling a username to make sure no 3rd party takes it during the transaction.
I hope you guys find this list useful, don't be afraid to come with your own suggestions for things to add. I probably forgot a bunch of terms but these should at least cover the basics for people new to IG.
