Google+ Shutdown in April 2019 (for personal use)

Got an email about this and wasn't sure how I felt about it. On one hand I thought, "This social media platform has never really been well received and to some extent forced down our throats by Google" then I thought, "Crap, what about all the Wordpress sharing plugins and themes integrated with the G+ icon littered across the web"?

Although, I could care less about the Google Plus pages and communities I will miss Big G rewarding my shared posts on the platform with higher priority in the search engine results.

What you guys think?

Frankly speaking, there are very few people who really are affected by the shutdown of Google plus. I even don't remember when was the last time I had used G plus.

While I don't think it was very popular as a social media platform there is a lot of site's themes and plugins surely effected by the integration needing removed and the loss of a good portion of social shares that comes from G+.

Perhaps the shutdown is due to the time they got hacked last year...

"Representatives for Google confirmed Monday that its Google Plus network was compromised over the weekend, exposing the sensitive personal data of all 19 people still using the social network."

I'm sorry to see G+ go. I much prefer it to Facebook. There's so much less digital noise and the presentation is far better. But Google have a track record of killing off their free services. It never became the Facebook killer they wanted it to be and now, despite the huge amount of money they make from their services, they can't be bothered funding a security overhaul on G+. Sadly, more evidence that Google are only interested in the money their users can generate for them not in their users themselves.

Totally agree. The problem I see is now people need to stop sending social signals to the platform and cut integration in site themes, plugins, and apps which can be a lot of work. It feels like G+ has been forced down our throats to some degree and I recall at one point Google services required a G+ account as part of authentication to use some services. Now, here people are cleaning up the mess after Google has taken another project and pulled the plug.

Never really used it, used it some to promote some things and promote businesses/websites but not sure if it brought in much traffic.

Glad this thing is retiring. Wasn't that popular.

Only reason I used G+ was for contacting someone I knew over G+ and nothing else.
