Facebook page with bought likes

Hi all,

We have had a Facebook page up and running for our consumer business for a few years. When we launched the page we worked with a marketing agency who unknown to us bought a bunch of likes/followers for our page.

We have about 1500 followers in total of whom about 1200 are inactive, 'bought' followers, sitting in Malaysia.

We are now looking to grow our Facebook community and wondering if we should start again from scratch i.e. with a new page. Or should we continue building on our existing audience, making sure that we only acquire 'quality' followers going forward?

Any help/opinions would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

I would just continue with what you have. It's not such a large number of inactive followers. When you successfully hit 10,000+ passionate followers, 10% being inactive bought followers won't make a difference. The truth is, you're going to have inactive followers that you acquire organically as well.

Just continue with this one, no issues about it.

(IMO) Growing the likes on a page brand isn't as useful as it was before. I understand it establish the brand side of your project, but you can do better.

With basically any other conversion objective, you'll get tons of likes. The new algorithm updates (I believe in the late 2017) made it possible by integrating the likes/shares interests in all the other campaign's goals.

For example when you run a purchase campaign, Fb will optimize for people who have shown a buying intent WITH the engagement side.

Trash it; bought Likes are useless because inanimate objects cannot buy your stuff or follow your site Start fresh, start clean, start clear, start genuine, start honestly.

  • First, congratulations for keeping your vision alive and your willingness to move forward rather than quit ... characteristically entrepreneurial! At some point...NOW...go back to your active followers. Identify the Avatar nature of your best followers. Best equals how consumer fits into your evolving vision and is enthusiastic judged by recurring page engagement: sales cart behavior, recurring purchase behavior and referral behavior. Provide an incentive for them to participate in a better value and offer engagement with you in return for their advice about improvements they would like to see in service and product. Find out why they have remained enthusiastic. Find out what kind of referral programs they have enjoyed and disliked from you or anyone. Go into these conversations (not interviews) without your preconceptions so you are open to receiving insights. Find out more about how they behave online/offline generally as consumers. Be transparent. You want to be a better servant in order to serve more and have greater impact providing what consumers like them desire. For that matter uncover desires. Every purchaser is trying to solve something whether real or psychological. Your conversational but organized (scripted) approach to uncover nuggets will uncover the nuggets. Their spoken thoughts become your sales and marketing language. This language (sales copy) lands inside the limbic or ancient brain of the consumers you have and wish to grow in numbers.

I agree with most of the others, that you can continue on with this existing page.
Facebook will look at overall engagement.
It also looks and rates each post for engagement on its own merits.
A few other things to keep in mind.
    • Enter a good description for your business or organization.
    • Create a compelling story for your business or organization along with an interesting and engaging picture.
    • Fill in all key information.
Keep in mind your client and your keywords for all this information you fill out.
And be consistent with your posting, and original. Watch your insights and see what your people are engaging with, and give them more of that.
    All the best
