The $1.80 Strategy for Instagram Marketing



Has anyone tried Gary Vaynerchuk's $1.80 Instagram Strategy before?
Curious to hear about your results from doing this and how long you tested it out for.

For those of you that aren't familiar with the $1.80 Strategy, it's essentially an Engagement Strategy for Instagram that Gary preaches will help with building your community & follower growth organically.

The process goes like this:
  1. Find the 10 Hashtags in your Niche
  2. Look for 9 Top Posts that you genuinely find interest in
  3. Like the post, engage and comment your 0.02 cents
  4. Then repeat these steps everyday!
Leaving your 0.02 cents on 9 posts, for each of the 10 hashtags adds up to $1.80, which is how this method got it's name.

    Use it, Love it, recommend it regularly here on the forum. I have been using it for clients for the better part of 2 years now? "Become the Mayor of your city" in terms of local marketing has been H U G E.

    The exact same principles work regardless what you are doing if it is not targeting say a brick and mortar type business. Just put your .02 in on accounts based on context and not geography.

    Works well across many platforms too actually. We implement it on Facebook, on LinkedIn, on Twitter, not the full 90 a day but dripped consistently.

    As I understand the Strategy it is 90 posts leaving your .02 cents Like I said depending n the business or whatever it is you are pushing you will want to base the comments by geography or again in context to what it is you are building community around. Wouldn't say that it is limited to hashtags.. you are only leaving COMMENTS

    Just to clarify, does this strategy help to gain followers? Or, what is the desired end result?

    It sounds interesting though I have a niche site and IG account. Will definitely try the method.

      I have found it does a few things. #1, yes you gain followers. but its even more than that. I have found that people you go out and "Randomly" comment on their account, have a tendency to not only follow, but become active with what it is you are sharing in the future.

      I think the biggest aspect in Social Media Marketing that is forgotten is the actual "Social" part. The number of followers at the end of the day really doesn't mean much, but the number of people that are actually consuming your content and in the case of marketing, the number that are converting is what is important.

      Kinda like the late 80's AT&T commercials "Reach out and Touch Someone"... Communication is an ACT. A call is started, a quick comment is left, saying hello to a passerby on the street. Its a far different interaction than an ad - its literally personal - There is a given, that YOU took your time to say what ever it is you say.

      In one of Gary's videos about this strategy he left the comment "Swole" that's it... I can only imaging it made that persons day. Imagine the impact for YOU and your BRAND doing that 90 times per day, EVERY day. It has impact, and you WILL see the results of that.

    I like the idea of commenting on the top 10 hastslags but there are problems you can run into

    1 You can get blocked form.commenting
    2 The top 10 hastags are saturated it would be hard to get noticed

    Instead of commenting on one of the top hashtags you can choose the most recent ones .Try using different hashtags on the list . make sure that you add value when you comment otherwise you will look like Spam.Go just as hard in people's inbox

    So there is another video on the subject released just before the one above. If you goto 4:30 in the video, you get a better idea of the process. Yes, he pulls a hashtag "Fitness" BUT then he drops into real peoples accounts to make the comment.


    You want that PERSONAL touch.. 90 times a day. And to be transparent with what I do.. I dont get after the top.. My grind is more mid and lower active accounts. I find more response overall day in and day out. YES, you can hit a jackpot with volume by hitting on big accounts, but getting content shares and the like I find easier to obtain away from "Influencer" accounts and more in line with every day people accounts.

    So I make my schedule. Daily 5 Comment on Twitter, Reddit, Insta, FB & YT.

    I will try yo give solution in my niche. Ask Meaningful questions, help others.
