Social media is basically telling us what to eat

Fire up Instagram, and the most recent Story on your news feed is probably that friend who always lounges at a Korean BBQ spot, and another friend who just bought a pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks. Suddenly, you find yourself dining at the same BBQ spot, and buying a macchiato at Starbucks. Yes, your friends via social media basically influenced you to eat the same.

A 2017 survey also found that 69% of millennials take a photo of their food before taking a bite, but that number has likely increased. What do you think? Are you that kind of person who gets swayed by the latest drink that Starbucks announced on Twitter? Do you look for "inspiration" on social media whenever you go out for lunch or dinner?

haha smart answer! But isn't it the case? Also, those groups which are discussing eatries have really been a reason behind "going viral on Social Media".

There's something fun about posting food on social media. There's a sort of artistic vibe around it. I'm guilty of it myself. But I'd rather take pictures of dishes I've created instead of someone else's work.

Food is a great niche because we all need it everyday. Personally, I've never went out to get something because I saw it on social media, or I'm in denial. 69% taking photos seems like a bit of a stretch, BUT this is now the social media age. Everything has changed. For me, social media is too much. I can only scroll a short ways down (whether I make a comment or not) before I need to exit out. Just can't take the mass consumption, I guess - I'm in the minority I'm sure.

You either consume social media, or you monetize it.

Not really. What I imitate is what I see on food blogs that have recipes. That is what I like to recreate.

There's one time that I searched for pictures of grazing table and accounts that sell them on Instagram so I could get one for Christmas dinner with my coworkers. After that, I've been seeing tons posts of grazing table on my explore feed for about a week or two. I'm not instantly swayed by it but it gives me a mental note that I have to try some of it soon.

That's why I don't use social media beyond business reasons.

I'm not really influenced by social media when it comes to food. It could be because I'm a vegetarian and see a lot of meat eaters.

I do not get bothered with this. social media has made us able to see different tastes, foods and cultures more than before which I like.

If you're easily influenced by social media then that's where you fail. Do not let it influence you.
