Pinterest traffic

I was looking at Pinterest and for couple of high volume keywords, I was looking at the top pins for affiliate offers and checking their monthly visits to their website using similarweb.com. These website according to similarweb appears to get almost all their traffic from Pinterest.
What was a bit strange to me is these pinterest profiles have 1m - 10m monthly views, 20k - 200k followers but 10k-15k website views. This seems like a very low CTR.
I am unexperienced about pinterest traffic. I am thinking about starting there but I wonder how much time it takes to build such a following and the kind of profit one's can make.

  • Pintrest is very good for some niches and average for others.

And yes the CTR can be very low because views are really just "impressions". Meaning your pin appeared in the feed even if the user was only scrolling through looking at the images.

The good news is you can build a following very fast using group boards, tailwind tribes and just being active for 10-20 minutes a day.

The simple strategy I'm using is to pin each piece of content you create at least 5 times to 5 different personal boards. Then pin it 5 time to 5 different tribes or group boards. Re-pin a bunch of stuff from other people (good quality pins only) to fill out your boards.

After a few weeks check analytics and re-pin your best performing stuff 5 more times to 5 more boards.

Sounds like a lot but re-pinning is actually 2 clicks.

Followers are not that important. But its easier than other platforms, because people need to re-pin other people's stuff to keep their boards filled and active. So if they see you are active, have good content and not spammy you'll get a ton of follows.

    • thanks for sharing your method. I never thought of pinning the same content in different personal boards. I will implement this method.
Have you followed before followers of your competitors, hoping that they will follow you back? I did it, but the follow back is limited.

  • I have used Pinterest for my business, and it has given really good results to me in terms of the number of followers, traffic and conversions. I would suggest you to start using it if you think you have your target audience on Pinterest. Regarding the time duration, it completely depends on your business, target audience and how consistently you use it. Remember consistency is the key.
  • I do not believe in Pinterest to be a good marketing place at all.

    • It depends on your product and/or service.
But as you can see many people here talk about great results with it.

It seems to be a very good place especially for bloggers.

  • To get more traffic through Pinterest then you can improve your post quality.
    1. Your post content should be unique.
    2. You can follow more boards on Pinterest.
    3. Upload daily images.
  • I heard many good things about pinterest as a traffic source and it can get you very good conversions

  • I have been using Pinterest for about eight months.

I created a lot of group boards and followed about 50 people a day for 10 days.

I now follow thousands and have thousands of following me.

A few of my pins out of the fifty or so I have created give me traffic every day.

Looking at my traffic stats Pinterest comes second to Google over the long term for consistent traffic.

Once a pin that you have created becomes popular other pinners will pin it to their board and you will have a nice flow of free traffic!

I have not joined Tailwind yet - but I might in the future.

I would recommend anyone joins Canva for the free image software to make pins very quickly.

So my thoughts are that its great for long term traffic, although I needed to be patient and try a lot of different pins before I received traffic.

I have used Youtube for traffic in the past.

I found it quite easy with a little practice to rank my Youtube videos highly and as Google owns Youtube it was great for getting traffic to my website.

However comparing Youtube to Pinterest - I found that with Youtube, you can get traffic much more quickly - within a day sometimes although the traffic would tail off after a short while.

Whereas with Pinterest the traffic has taken me a lot longer to get, but it stays there a lot longer.

If you can image one pin, that becomes popular being shared around 100s or 1000s of other boards, not instantly but consistently each day, and getting a little traffic every time it is shared, then this is how Pinterest traffic seems to work.

    Hope this helps.
