In 2020, Can You Make Money Online Without Social Media?

I've never relied on social media to make money online, and I won't in 2020 either. Rather, I focus on ranking websites to the top of Google, as organic traffic is Way better (higher Quality) than traffic from FB or IG. I say this because generally, people are on social media to socialize, they don't want to be sold to. So, it is a lot harder to get that initial sale: you have to build an audience, build relationships, get people to know, like, and trust you, etc...

When people are searching on Google for a buyer keyword, and your website comes up, you are more likely to make that sale because they're actively searching for a solution to their problem. That is why organic traffic is much more profitable than traffic from social media.

Hi, it's great that you shared your frank opinion for your dislike for social media. I understand how you feel. It can be very overwhelming an devouring for some people if they are not exposed to it much. However and sadly so, we have to embrace the evolution and to ride along the wave. To me, it is a matter of getting acquainted to it and getting used to it.

As to making money online, we will still need the power of social media to help to scale up one's online business or to make money online. However, there is a little consolation that we could still have alternatives to drive businesses through Email marketing and all. It really depends on your strategy to reach out to your intended target audience.

Having said that, I would also want people to remember that offline marketing is not dead (yet). It still works wonders when couple with digital marketing :-)

Social media is a powerful tool to increase the brand awareness. But, you cannot simply rely on it unless you have a big follower base on it. Also, it is good to earn money from organic ranking of your site.
In 2020, the social media marketing strategies are almost same as before. You can apply them to increase your lead conversion rate and traffic.

I only use social media for my business but my husband has been running a business for 12 years and just uses Google.

Google and other search engines can provide you sufficient traffic online to run your business. Without any social media application you can run your business , but to grow your business you need to use social media sites because there are lot of traffic that come through social media sites.

The only social media that work for me to sell its youtube as people buy like crazy .But other like facebook instagram ,linkedin etc .People are more to socialize etc

I kind of rely on social media, but not too much. There are certain groups where I can advertise my services and get traffic, but I mostly get business from Google.

And it makes sense. People (mostly) use Google when they want to find something to buy.

I built a fortune over the last 20+ years without social media. It was almost exclusively through article marketing in online/offline publications.

I still don't use social media very much at all directly, but recently I found it to be an incredible marketing tool for access to my targeted demographics.

According to me, traffic through the search engines are best for any business. Because organic traffic indicates that people are aware of your brand and are interested in your products, and that way you will make money.
But should we use social media or not? Depends upon your business, for some business social media, can be as good as organic traffic. So we should not also completely avoid social media. If you find a good number of your target people on social media, then you should definitely use it. As it is the best platform for increasing your brand awareness and building a relationship with your customer.

Social media is good for brand awareness but according to me selling ratio is a bit less. So i believe also on good ranking in search engines for sale. I use social media platform to let people know about our new services or blog post nothing more.

Social media is huge for brand awareness. Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, and now TikTok. They can all bring up huge revenues if you take advantage of it.

I was about to say "I've generated almost $700,000 since starting my business in 2016 and I haven't relied on social media at all!"

...but then I remembered, 90% of my affiliates that send me traffic... are recruited on Facebook Messenger.

So yeah, I guess I do rely on it and will until I stop needing affiliates.

But I'll agree, I dislike it too. Social media sucks and I feel like a goon when I spend more than 20 minutes on it. I make it a point to almost NEVER look at my newsfeed.

I totally rely on social media to make money online in 2020. They bulk of your targeted buyer traffic are aimlessly scrolling up and down their social media pages looking to be retargeted by your ads. I hate vacations, but if it keeps me from contracting the Coronavirus, then I'll use it.

Depending on the purpose that you are using social media, it could be a time waster for others but a money maker for you, when you are running paid advertising campaigns on the social media networks.

As most of the businesses are using social media nowadays in order to generate business. And, if you're an entrepreneur so must be to use social media.

You should not rely on any social media app, Social media is to increase Brand Awareness not for earning money. But you can still make a lot of money from social media like Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Youtube, etc. Big companies are willing to give hundreds if not thousands of dollars for promoting there a Brand or Sponsorships.

We (my team and I) personally use social media a lot to build our business online but that being said, there is so many different ways of generating traffic to your offer / business with internet today.

Sure FB has a large % of the traffic but what about forums, classifieds, blogging, articles, youtube...

You don't have to use social media to make money online if you do not wish to as there are also other ways/methods to do so. You can build your e-mail list well and do e-mail marketing or writing your blog. You will need drive the traffic to your blog or to get them to subscribe to your e-mail list so it can be done through your own squeeze page or website. But your website or blog has to be established enough to drive the traffic to your desired platform. This may mean opting for paid traffic sources like PPC or Solo Ads.

Social Media are most helpful if you rely heavily for free traffic methods and for its viral effect.

In short, you do not need to make money online via social media if you do not wish to. There is nothing wrong with it either. It boils down to using cost-effective ways to achieve exponential effect/result to bring your business to another level.

You are not alone on that. There area lot of people that hate social media just like you do. Sime of them hate it because they were not there to enjoy it when it started because they did not have phones at that ime and their time pased because they are now too old to join. Maybe you are among those people that time pased and now do not get what is so good about social media. It seems like it was made for the milenials. i do not depend on social media to make money online. I would if I wanted to bu I chose other means. I use email instead or my phone number. There is nothing annoying about them like social media.

I do not depend on social media to make money. Infact none of my social media accounts are connected to my online working platforms. It is possible to work online and earn money without ever using social media. We have to agree that not everyone likes social media and that is very clear. There are serious socoial media platforms such as linkedin that can be used for business. I hope that by social media you do not also mean skype and whatsapp because they are not socialmedia in my view. You will definetly need skype if you want to work on freelancer platforms. Some clients use it to perform an interview with you.

I think it is pretty much possible though social media is really important these days, and it is hard to do without it...
