Facebook takes legal action against fake engagement sellers and data scraping

Facebook has announced that they're filing lawsuits in the EU and US against a Spain-based fake engagement firm, and another US-based running a data scraping service.

Per Facebook

"The defendant's service was designed to evade Instagram's restrictions against fake engagement by mimicking the official Instagram app in the way that it connected to our systems. The defendants did this for profit, and continued to do so even after we sent a Cease and Desist letter and disabled their accounts."
While buying likes and followers is very simple (you can Google one right now), there are legal consequences, and the penalties might be severe.

    Yes on these terms it is illegal unless the firm was given permission which it clearly wasn't so I could see why instagram is taking legal action because even after warning the firm they continued doing it .

      If you actually read the title it is about Facebook, not once does Enzo mention Instagram in his post !

    So a company which itself is involved in scams and sacndals suing other company, that makes complete sense.

    It's worrying that companies are still offering fake likes and followers after seeing the trouble other companies face from it. Profiles also shouldn't invest in these companies either! Too many people care about these numbers that aren't even genuine..It's good to see a gradual stop to this.

    I think this is such a great initiative because there is only so much of scamming that you can tolerate. Also why create something based on lies ? Shortcuts have never gone a long way.
