The US plans to ban TikTok as soon as today (8/1/20).

However, Microsoft is supposedly in talks to buy TikToc.

India banned tiktok quite some time aqgo and I'd read an article claiming several other countries were considering the same.

Conundrum- if Chinese company sells TikTok - who would buy? At the same time we are reading that Google and Microsoft and Twitter, etc have become 'too big'....would one of them be permitted to buy tiktok?

This has been in the news for at least a week and we'll see where it goes. To me it is shocking that people would not have concerns - that they would be so addicted to putting themselves on social media that privacy and security would not be of any importance. I saw some of the 'stars' of TikTok on the news saying ' but this is my career'..

If you go back a few months you'll see another thread about this by Enzo - and some of the predicted this could/would happen.

    • I tend to agree Kay King. Its quite interesting to see how the world is reacting to privacy policies. Many people don't seem to care what information about themselves they give away.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out. If Microsoft does buy it, does that mean Tik Tok is here to stay? (in the USA)

I was just reading a few articles about this 'ban' or potential ban online and it's interesting to see the comments of users.

You have your cutesy 'I'm a tiktok star' whining about 'they can't do this to us'...but you have people who have done very well on the platform leaving it. 18 yr olds going to work with an upcoming competitor - not willing continue on tiktok if there is a chance it's working against our people or country's best interests.

Sounds like a plan announced today - microsoft or similar 'stable' company can buy TikTok - whether it would be a portion or entire company would be in play - otherwise, TikTok in US will be 'out' on September 15.

Nope - TikTok is OUT of the USA unless MS or another large company purchases it and the feds approve the purchase.

It looks as if the U.S. Treasury might get a cut of this deal:
