Twitter will soon let you crop your own image previews

Search Engine Journal reports that Twitter users will soon have the ability to crop their own image previews, and have more control over how their photos appear in the newsfeed.

This comes after Twitter received flak for their flawed image cropping algorithm, and is biased in regards to what it does and doesn't crop from photos. As you know, Twitter currently doesn't allow users to crop an uploaded photo's in-stream preview.

Twitter said they're "working on ways" to give users more visibility and control over how an image would appear when a tweet is publish:

"We are prioritizing work to decrease our reliance on ML-based image cropping by giving people more visibility and control over what their images will look like in a Tweet.

Going forward, we are committed to following the "what you see is what you get" principles of design, meaning quite simply: the photo you see in the Tweet composer is what it will look like in the Tweet."
Originally, Twitter crops images algorithmically so that means that Twitter may crop either the top, bottom, or middle. And depending on the image's original size, details may be cropped out depending on whether the image is taller or wider. But of course the full image will be shown when users click on the image preview.

Chime in.

That's a good thing for sure. It will help a lot because sometimes it made look things bad in the preview.

It would definitely be a great change because most of the time the details that you want to show in a picture get cropped out in the preview.
