Twitter launches Fleets to all users

Twitter has announced the full roll-out of Fleets for all users on iOS and Android, and will have access to the function over the next couple of days.

So basically Twitter users can now create Fleets on Twitter with a dedicated stories bubble on the top of your news feed. And in typical stories fashion, they disappear after 24 hours within the app. Twitter said they will also fulfill a "distinct need" on the platform, as they believe many people (including me) leave drafted tweets, never seeing the light of the day:

"Twitter's purpose is to serve the public conversation - it's where you go to see what's happening and talk about it. But some of you tell us that Tweeting is uncomfortable because it feels so public, so permanent, and like there's so much pressure to rack up Retweets and Likes. That's why, unfortunately, there are so many ???? Tweets left in drafts!"
Kayvon Beykpour, Twitter Product Lead, also shared the same thoughts about fleets:

"Now, more than ever, we think it's critical to provide people another way to share what's on their mind; without feeling self-conscious about it lasting on the record, and without the pressure of public replies. Those Tweets that never got past "Drafts" can finally see the light!"
So what can people post on Fleet? Here are options:
  • Text fleets - basic text on a coloured background.
  • Share tweets - users can share individual tweets, which also appear on a coloured background.
  • Video or photo - users can also post a video clip or photo.

That's pretty much it. There are no AR effects just yet on Fleets though of course, but Twitter says stickers and live broadcasting are coming soon.

Chime in.
