How to put contextual links into a Facebook post?

7 replies
Hi all, does anyone here know how to put contextual links into a Facebook post? For example if I write a Facebook status and I want to include a link to a Facebook group or website, instead of it displaying the whole URL (in blue), how do I make it so it just says the name of the group or website and people can click on it to go there? I've Googled this and everything I've read says this isn't possible, yet I see people on Facebook doing this all the time. It's really bugging me that I can't figure this out, so I thought I'd ask in here how it's done. Many thanks in advance for your help!

    You need to learn some basic HTML for this.
    Google "how to make a link" and find a tutorial
    for beginners.

      Html code doesn't seem to work in Facebook posts. I tried creating a link with ahref in html in a Facebook post, but it doesn't work. It just pastes the code into my Facebook post.

      I Tried putting HTML code for a link (ahref etc) into my Facebook post, but it doesn't work. It just displays the HTML code in the post.

    Yes, I do not think facebook allows you to do this. The only thing I have been able to do is add a link and then facebook will auto generate a picture from the webpage and use it as a post. If you are trying to do this for SEO purposes, I would suggest creating a reddit community and posting your contextual links in the description after adding the keywords you want into the title. If you have any questions, I am an SEO coordinator and would be happy to help.

      It must be possible because I see many people doing it, for example in the following FB post by a local musician - look at the links in blue he's added in his post, they are not merely the URLs but he's shortened them to the names of the musicians/venues etc to make them look neater. How did he do that?.....

        I thought to myself it can't be that easy the answer to your question but then I tried it out for you and I have to say it is in fact that easy:

        all you need to do is put an @ and then write the name of the page or group you want, you will see a dropdown menu and simply click at the name

        Example:
        @Peplo
        @Outsider Art Fest 2021

        etc.
