Social Media Today says that this feature has been in test mode for the last few months, but now, Twitter has officially launched its new 'Super Follow' option. Selected creators in the US are now able to charge a monthly fee for exclusive, extra tweet content for their biggest fans.

Super Follows could provide more incentive for Twitter's most popular creators to become even more active on the platform while also providing more ways to build their member community and establish more reliance on the app.

"Whether it's Tweets about the best skincare routine, your astrological sign (hello #virgoszn) or that funny meme, Twitter is where people go to have real conversations with others who share their interests. These incredible conversations make Twitter what it is and we want to support the people creating them so that Twitter continues to be a place to connect with others authentically. This year, we've started to do more to support the voices driving these conversations with money, through Tip Jar and Ticketed Spaces.

Today, we're excited to introduce Super Follows, a new way for people to earn monthly revenue by sharing subscriber-only content with their followers on Twitter. With Super Follows, people can create an extra level of conversation on Twitter (sharing bonus Tweets and more!) to interact authentically with their most engaged followers - all while earning money."
Users can set a monthly subscription of $2.99, $4.99, or $9.99 a month to monetize bonus, "behind-the-scenes" content for their most engaged followers on Twitter. And followers get extra special access to their unfiltered thoughts, early previews, and subscriber-only conversations from their favorite accounts.

Creators claim up to 97% of any payments received through the option, after in-app fees, up to $50k in total earnings. After they reach that $50k threshold, the creator cut drops to 80%, with Twitter taking a larger percentage from then on.

  • Hhhhm, would that mean Twitter would be more "open" to the type of content being posted on the site?

Shall we see how this model lies into offline, into real social relations: Imagine one is "allowed" to behave more openly if paying to attend one's mom's birthday, otherwise one risks to be removed from one's mom's birthday ))))

Sociopaths making social networks, no less ))))

Hmm, another one on the self-destruction road =))) following is the very idea, what the hack is that super following, reckoning social media mimic offline social behaviors as the key why they even exist. To make it clear on the "extreme example": shall I follow my dad but super follow my mom? How's that? Oh my! I think this is the logical outcome of that twitter stopped giving fruits...
