If you are not comfortable on camera - it shows. We've all seen those sort of 'awkward' videos - where the person LOOKS uncomfortable.


Not sure you have to 'overcome' it - you can find work arounds instead. You can do the voiceover for a video ...or hire an actor to do the video.


Or you can make being a bit uncomfortable part of your online persona so that people come to expect that from you and view it as funny or witty or just 'who you are'.

My son was 14 and seeing me trying to create videos in the basement, he decided he was going go give it a try. He sat in front of a camera and... was trying to create a video. Problem is... he had nothing to say. So he just sat there in front of a camera, trying to figure out what to talk about.

And you know what? This crappy video was already entertaining. I showed it to him, he watched it. A few times.

Which brings me to the point -- you're putting too much pressure on yourself. Start slow. Give yourself permission to suck, especially at the beginning. Take as many tries as you need. Look at them, analyze them. Critique your own videos. Soon you'll become so much better, you'll even surprise yourself.

People like to watch unbelievably boring content like "Slow TV" which is strapping a camera to the train and filming it all.

Just do something simple -- read an article about something that excites you and then talk about it in an entertaining way like if you were telling a story to your buddy.

We're all wired for stories. Don't be your own harshest critic. And most importantly... commit to making a video per day. Every day. Even if you're puking your guts. Even if (think) you're fat, disgusting, boring AF or... like me, speak with an accent.

None of this matters if you can provide value to your audience. And by value I mean... like Jerry Seinfeld once said -- his job is to waste people's time. This is what he's paid to do. And people will give you unlimited attention if you're entertaining them. And you will be if you create enough of these videos.

Right now there's a beginner comic I follow because he's "Not woke". This guy is not particularly funny, but he spends two hours a day blabing in front of a camera. And you know what? In those two hours there's no doubt some sections are funny. So he cuts them out and shows as separate videos and he's building an audience. And so can you. Just present whatever you're saying in an entertaining manner and soon you'll have an audience.

No. I'm more concerned about how I sound - raspy, clear, vague, etc...

of course depends on the person but if you decide to do it you need to do all possible ways to make it .

Based on your title if you are talking about Youtube Videos. Yes, most people are shy to show up on their faces including myself. But what I normally do is I pick a topic and upload voice-based videos on different stories related to my nich. Many people prefer to listen rather than watching my face

People who do not want to appear in videos can hire
actors, wear a disguise, or do demonstration/tutorials
where showing their face is not necessary.

Animations are being used quite often and I've seen
videos that are done entirely on a computer screen
where you never see anyone at all.

Everyone has their own style of making videos in youtube, the main funda is how is your content, will the video watcher like and share.

Actually, it still happening to me.

My problem is related to the language speaking accent.

Actually I am good at English with good grammars, but my accent can't help.

I am afraid to create recording video or even voiceover, to avoid being awkward.

If you have a slight accent, it's not a problem. However, if your accent is difficult for others to easily understand what you are saying....I would advise hiring a freelancer to do a 'voiceover' .
