TikTok expected to surpass 1.5 billion users next year

Is it even surprising in the first place? Data forecast shows that the eponymous app will exceed 1.5 billion users next year, putting it well ahead of Instagram (at 1 billion active users).

The 1.5B user forecast doesn't even include India, where the app is banned.

Chime in.

Yes, Instagram is still ahead of TikTok but I think it will surpass 1.5 billion users next year.

I already said it will surpass 1.5 billion users. Why repeat?

I think tiktok encourages content creator more than Instagram
on tiktok anybody can be famous without any extra learning curve or months of experience,

on tiktok if people like your content then you will get more view b'cos tiktok will recommend your video to more people weather you have followers or not compared to Instagram that your content only get to 10% or so of your followers,

I think that inspired anybody to create more content to tiktok now

At first I don't believe tiktok will be this big, now it's almost taking over

Am I the only person who finds that projected number chilling?

If you opt in, TikTok says it can collect your phone and social-network contacts, your GPS position and your personal information such as age and phone number along with any user-generated content you post, such as photos and videos. ... It can track the videos you like, share, watch all the way through and re-watch.
Tiktok is still owned by Bytedance - but increasingly also by the
    Chinese government.

From The Washington Post in August ...
In another sign of China's tightening grip on the country's growing technology sector, the government has taken an ownership stake in a subsidiary that controls the domestic Chinese social media and information platforms of ByteDance, the Beijing-based company that owns TikTok.

The ownership stake does not appear to directly affect TikTok, the wildly popular video service that last year surpassed Facebook Messenger as the most downloaded app in the United States. But the development could prompt fresh debate about whether TikTok poses national-security risks to American users.

In any case, it suggests that China is pushing for more sway over ByteDance

...Holding one of three board seats suggests that the government has obtained a level of influence at the Chinese subsidiary beyond its small equity stake.
India banned Tiktok in June (I think that ban is still in place)...and it's estimate now that about 80 million in the USA are on Tiktok....1/4 of the population if that number is true.

Tiktok is fun - well done, entertaining, interesting....and collecting personal information from every person that joins in....and the Chinese government has access to that data.

Entertaining and annoying as well, with added "benefit" of govt access to data

Tik Tok is useful for its short and to the point video rules! People have shorter attention spans and shorter fuses for elongated BS from long pitches. I have learned a great deal from filtering on things like most useful sites, financial tips, travel tips, etc

Agree. YouTube and Instagram have launched Shorts and Reels, respectively. Both are short-form video content.
