10-minute video uploads are coming to TikTok

Short-form video is the trend, and that's how TikTok became so viral in the first place. In general, audience attention spans are also shorter, and content creators have to constantly cater their strategies to younger demographics.

With the 10-minute videos coming to TikTok, that would put it at par with YouTube, which we know is still the platform for regular videos. And don't forget YouTube Shorts, their own short-form video flavour.

Is that a good thing? Chime in.

  • I think it's a good thing because it opens them up to other types of content link tutorials or even short films. 10-minute videos also look better if you want to make a series.

Watching a 2-minute video on TikTok is already too long for me, much more if they roll out 10-min long videos.

TikTok's video aspect ratio just isn't suited for longer videos.

      • I think it depends on the content.

Like, for short films, I think 2 minutes would be way too short. There's not enough time to build a story.

And with tutorials, I get annoyed when I have to watch another video to get the next piece of information. I want to get my information in one package.

Regarding the aspect ratio, I agree that can be a problem with longer videos.

          Ugh same.

If creators can't compress videos within 2 mins it's best for them to upload to YouTube.

I don't think they'd merely "experiment" with this though

Aren't 10-minute videos against the original concept of TikTok? And besides, everyone remembers not the most successful launch of IGTV.

It seems like a good idea in the first glance at least as it will give users opportunity to make more valuable content here and give it more originality and creativity, as they won't be limited that much with the video duration, so I guess we will be able to find more interesting content in the upcoming months. Short videos are becoming more and more popular so this is definitely a good decision for TikTok and they will definitely take some audience from YouTube as well as more users will start getting here to search for fun videos.

Ironic how TikTok wanted to popularise short-form videos, but suddenly want to implement 10-min videos.

I think it's just a strategy of Tik Tok to attract more audience, which consume videos in YouTube. It seems to me that Tik Tok want to become a monopolist in the sphere of video creation, but it's obvious that it's tough to replace YouTube on this market.
Actually, such features are good, because there are some people who can make long videos and bring something into society, for examplke, such a feature esentially dilate the opportunities for those ones who publish exceptionnaly educational content. Due to this new thing, it's getting possible to run the whole lectures, which can be divided into several 10-minutes lasting parts.

It's cool, but of course, the conception of the company which was initially set is to create short videos for fun. Company's developing and it's okay anyway.
