Fan pages are WONDERFUL ways to separate your work and real life identities. Actually its a MUST.

Use your Fan Page as your primary facebook tactic - keep things separate

They call them "Like Pages" now. I'm in the process of setting a page up promoting an ebook with an opt-in form on the page.

    Hi!

I use fan pages as a way of getting optin leads and generating my list......so if that counts as a money making device then yes

If used right fanpages can be brilliant sources of optins.......as the pretty much advertise themselves as long as you keep interacting and adding content.

    Regards

      Hey Leslie,

Yeah it does take a bit of time to figure out especially if your not a facebook person, but once its all set up its really simple to maintain and keep going

Give me a shout if you need a hand!

    • I just wrote an article on this but I can't post links yet, too new on the forum. I'll PM you the link if you're interested and if anyone else wants it please let me know. It has easy directions and screenshots.

It's not difficult at all, takes less then 3 minutes and it is great to separate your personal and business life as others have said. You don't get creepy strangers looking at pics of your family and you don't have to spam your relatives with news of your product if they're not interested.

The problem with these is that the traffic is not at all targeted.

I would much rather go for quality rather than quantity in the fans department.

if you are going to use paid facebook traffic though and your page is brand new, I have been told to load up your page about 1000 fake friends in order to get a better ctr. Haven't actually tested it but it makes sense, social proof and all.

There are people on fiverr.com offering to get you fans. I don't know how targeted they will be. It's best to look through the testimonials first to get an idea if others have been satisfied with the service.

Just the one for the Back to the Future 25th anniversary.

It was thrown together as an experiment to see if anyone would go through to Amazon and purchase. They haven't so far, but then again I haven't promoted it and it has very few likes.

I'll probably give it more attention over the next week or so, but I think it would take a lot of effort to make such a page very worthwhile.

Agreed with most of the people above, nowadays a Fan Page is a must regardless of your personal feelings towards facebook. When you have a big enough userbase, you can start monetizing them directly from the fan page

    Yeah it's great.

I have it linked to Twitter which is then linked to my blog - so everytime i make a new post it gets tweeted then posted to my wall - so all my fans can read it. Of course they start hitting the like button so it then shows on there wall and then their friends see it and like it or click it and so on and so on.

Can usually get hundreds of visits just after posting a new post without having to link it anywhere!

Created a facebook fan/like page around 2 weeks ago for a new site of mine. It is actually pretty easy to create. Easily done in 3 or 4 steps. It will give you the opportunity to link the page to your twitter page too, so you will be easily targeting facebook and twitter users alike with one post.

Yeah I got one but i really dont use it for money (at least not at this moment!) I read some ebooks on how to use fan pages to get a big list and stuff but I dont think I can separate my personal page to money making yet.

I got 3000 fans in there at the moment and all I do is to post updates about a "certain" star. We are growing alright. I heard fan pages are the best option we got to profit from CPA.

I am having incredible (and surprising) results for a facebook ad I put up for a niche. The issue is that there is a different mentality with fb users. You must be willing to commit the time in to give your fans information that they want to interact with and continue following you. I really do not see using FB as a way to sell in to more than say 5 niches, as there is a time requirement to post every day (yes every day).
For now I am recommending that before you try to make money in any niche, you do a facebook campaign first. With the ability to laser target your market by interests, gender, ages, locations, if you can't get fans or make money there first you are never going to be able to expand past FB.
I am actually keeping track of my successes and failures and hopefully will have a nice free wso coming out soon to help everyone like me try to figure this out without paying the latest guru $1997!

I'm also confused and no one here seems to be able to show us. But I have found out that you must go to this page which is not even linked from the facebook home page: edit: ok I can't put a link but if you go to facebook and then put "/pages" in the url and press enter you will get an option at the top to create a page ( a little button with a + sign).

then I guess you start from there!

I have several that I created after maxing out at
    5000 "friends."

They do generate business for me although they
are not set up to maximize the results. For example,
I need to add video and some type of opt-in.

Right now, most people contact me via direct
message on FB, but it's usually people seeking joint
ventures or a joint venture broker... so a valuable
connection most of the time :-)

Not making money with the fan page per se, but using it as a way to stay in touch with customers, share sales, ask them to share new freebies with their friends, etc. I don't see it as a way to "make money" and I think a lot of others would agree that you need to go at it as relationship building and list buildling...the money should then follow if you do it right!

Looks like a group page, not a like page. You want a like page so when people click on the like button all of their friends will see that they liked something.

I have 2. One is over 12,000 fans, the other one is about 9,000. I build my list with them and also promote cpa offers on them.

They are simple to set up once you learn how. First time doing anything always takes the longest.

Go easy on them and don´t promote too much or you will lose them. I lost several because I was marketing too aggressively on them. One post a day should be good.

Friends and family cannot see your like page unless you click on the like button and then they will see a post saying that you liked something. Even then they will not know that you created the page unless they check on the info tab and if you put your name in the tab.

Let's just say I'm very uncomfortable with the idea of marketing on the same site that is turning to a time-consuming monsterous project with teens posting nude photos on it.

I'm not saying that using Facebook is bad, but... you need to treat it with a whole different set of rules than other social meida.

I'm interested in creating a Facebook fanpage too and got quite a lot of inspiration from a video I watched with Gary Vaynerchuk, he suggested that marketers that engage with their audience and get into the trenches on twitter and Facebook will succeed.

I think if you're a dedicated skilled writer and you're open to engaging your customers then it's a tool worth considering.

There's lots of free info on it if you Google "how create a facebook fanpage" you're going to need passion or the means to outsource the writing to make this one work.

How weird, I just came onto the forum with the objective of asking exactly the same question! must be pychic lol

I have had a few signups to my Facebook opt-in form/squeeze page, but it isn't proportionate to the number of fans I have though unfortunately.

I have a FB fan page as can be seen in my sig file. The reason you need one is if you look at the stats on time spent on faceboook you will see that between it and youtube they are sucking all the oxygen away from google. I can see that in my referrals from google. Faceboook is becoming a intranet that people go on and stay on without surfing elsewhere.

The beauty of faceboook fan pages is that you can send a status update or email to what is hopefully targeted customers,a feature that is built in to their system. You should however capture and build your email list which is another reason to be there.

Start by going to fiverr and add some "likes" to look like you are up and running.

One way to get traffic is by doing youtube commenting on subjects relating to your fan page and having your faceboook fan pagelink on your youtube channel page. Comment should be a tease to look at your channel.

I am getting about 50 channel views per day and growing.

I am using my faceboook fan page to give out free SEO information and plugging an infrequent offer.

Joanthan Budd has 20,0000 fans and is selling blue sky there all day long.

I have other ideas just havent had time to implement.

I've recently started a fan page for my Kettlebell Fitness site and boom - I have a whole new community of users that I can interact with, sell my stuff to, give freebies to. it's great! There really isn;t an easier way to build a relationship with your potential customers (and what's more, if they like what they see they will pass on your page to friends and before you know it, it's gone viral.

      Hi,
I am stone age. I do not use facebook privately.

I would like to build a fan page and use it as an opt-in page. Does anyone have a link to any good instructions on how to do it?

I am building friends on facebook purely from a business perspective. Is it ok to add 10 new friends for each "friend" I add even if I do not know them?

      Best!

        Hey Lars,

Do not add too many friends a day otherwise Facebook may block you from adding friends. 10/15 a day is good.

Creating a fanpage is very simple and there is even a guide on facebook to help you out in the help section if I am not mistaken.

        Regards

        Chris

Traffic costs money and since you need traffic to make money, you need money to make money. There are exceptions to the rule of course! You can try putting up a very funny YouTube video with a link to your fanpage and put a lot of funny stuff there too so people will like it... that's the best i can think of right now.

I make money on facebook with fan pages directly and indirectly.

I mean I have some where I offer help directly and then every so often post a link directly to a buy now offer.

Other pages, I offer help and then get them on my emailing lists where I offer more help and upsales then.

And for a few offline businesses, I have created fan pages where I build client bases for them and I get paid anywhere from $100 to $350 per new client who walks into their business one time. (I might add, I do not go directly after offline clients. They have come to me via friends or having seen my other fan pages.)

One doesn't simple make money with Facebook fan page alone, because your affiliate is already have their own fan page. Fan page is useful for anyone who wants to promote their product using Facebook, though it needs a lot of time to get many fan. Get ready to spend some bucks, but I can promise you, the traffic is really targeted, and once they've become a fan, they will follow your status every time they open their Facebook.

I have a couple (currently 7) successful fan pages in different niches and i've made money from them. I've also coded a couple of the page customization software out there, own a social search engine and numerous social autoresponder/CRM integrators.

    To answer the questions:
    1. Yes, you can make money off fan pages, but you have to realize a page is better at getting prospect than getting sales. FB is great at letting people know about your existence, but just having the page is not going to cut it. You need fans, you need to engage them, make them feel something: happyness, sadness, whatever... bind them to you in a way that best fits your product.

    2. The best way of getting targeted fans is through FB advertising in the very beginning. I filled up the last page i started (a month ago) until 200 fans with advertising, cost me around $100, then i started posting content and I grew since then with average 40 likes per day, for free, without promoted stories. Whenever I promote a story i get 20-30 extra likes per day, not worth it for my pages at this point.

    3. You can get 1000 fake fans for close to nothing, I've done that too in the beginning, but in my experience they will:
    a) make your stats completely worthless and unreadable, so you dont know if 50 real fans just unliked your page or if it were the fake ones.
    b) slow you down, it's better for you to know you have real 50 fans and work harder than have 1050 and slack off.
    c) boost your page's complaints rates, they just like you for an offtopic incentive, but will unlike/complain when you're posting stuff they're not interested in
    d) mean nothing to your real fans. Your real fans check how many of their friends are fans, not how many fans you have, at least not on the scale you can get dummy fans for anyway.
In short: don't do this if you're serious about your business

FB pages are great - they don't actually show up on your own FB unless you Like your own page.

Don't be tempted to "buy" fans - real ones are what you need. Also remember people will only like genuine things, not crappy eBooks or other junk - this ain't 2010 anymore.

I don't advise you to try to make money with your Facebook fan page. It's a great tool to attract fans and give them free information. It's a well-known fact that social media is for communication, creating loyalty, improving customer relations... Basically it's a great instrument/platform for developing and improving relationships with fans/clients/members.

In fact, it's not recommended to use social media directly in order to promote sales. It's not part of the selling process... (except for a few cases when you might let members know about promotions, special offers).

You can still make money otherwise, e.g. through a well-developed website.

    Good luck, mate!

Until now facebook do not have publisher account where people may publich their ads from their well known FB Fan you can only publish your ad and pay Facebook but alternatively if you have ad running on your website just iframe the page of your website that mostly receive the most visits per day - use the iframe plugin and have it run on FB fan page then people can just click any posts or pages and be directed to your website.
