Of course always strive to provide value with the videos, as much as you can. This should lead to a natural increase in views, subscribers, etc. Moreover, if you make your video stand out of the crowd, make it unique, it will definitely help as well.

The REAL videos are key like you have mentioned as oppose to just ads.

The best way is to ASK people to subscribe at the beginning and the end of the video offering them something in return.

For instance:

"Hey,

Today I am going to teach you how to play "Come as you are" by Nirvana - hit subscribe as I will also do an updated video on the tabs used."

Something like that will work well.

Another Youtuber has recently become viral for his channel doing just that, and he even talks about it in his videos; about the difference before and after, for covering current hit songs.

New hit songs will be well searched for, and believe it or not, people do search for "cover of ____song"; I personally do it, because I often find better versions than the original. That is how many get up there.

Boyce Avenue is another example. Check out their channel...many of the songs were hits when covered, or have been hits.... and they do a toned down version of the songs, or a stylized version.

Another aspect, which you could look at, is how the video is even created. Is it a really quick version of a song? Fast playing that could therefore be interesting to see?


Or is it a completely new version of it? A remix? Example: house remixes of pop songs...

Or is it a one take go....with guitar loops; like this walkofftheearth guy does, or like Mysteryguitarman used to do?

Or is it a series of cuts to make a song?- Mysteryguitar man style...

All of those play a role in people being able to keep their attention span on it long enough....and also on whether or not people will share it, and it will become viral.

A video of some guy playing a guitar alone, is not enough for people to want to view it over and over again. The guitar playing better be amazing, or done by 5 people on one guitar, or a mashup of two songs together, or a guy with only one hand playing it etc...

There is another guy on youtube who is a rapper and singer; and he gets his audience to challenge him to make a song out of odd objects, or to rap about an impossible sounding scenario; and he always completes the challenges. His name is DeStorm. He has loads of views and subscribers; simply because he is making music...and he can sing... but the difference is in the execution of how he ends up doing it.

... People are mentioning replies, and I know some musical and viral youtubers often have contests wherein they specifically ask for a reply; a musical sort of reply... and they may ask their subscribers to pick the winner from the entries, or people just naturally view those entries.

That gets exposure.

Another way to get exposure is to approach a youtube partner directly, show them what you can do, pitch a video idea; and ask them to JV with you. Lots of youtubers collaborate with each other, EVEN if one of the channels has a significantly lower subscriber base or view count.

I see collabs ALL the time, all over the place. Sometimes, the result can be as simple as asking and opening the doors....versus never asking at all.

I know that Shane Dawson has allowed smaller youtubers to collaborate with him, and he has cross promoted them, just as an example.

Ask For Feedback- In The Videos-

Annotations alone are not enough. Ever notice how you see ALL of the youtube partners, no matter their niche... from PhillyD (news cuts)- to Shane Dawson (sketches/gags), to Michelle Phan (makeup tutorials)...to Mysteryguitarman (music shorts channel)...asking their viewers to comment. To PARTICIPATE.

Asking them to participate brings in more people. These people are asking for suggestions for the next video, this is ACTIVE involvement that keeps the viewers coming back, and also helps improve the subscriber count in general.

Get your guitar man to just near the end of the video, say "know a song you've love me to cover" something like that, and tell the viewer to write it in the comment section. Or ask for their favourite songs, and say the most liked one will get played next.

Involving the viewers on this level is far more personal than the guy just playing what he likes. Involving the viewers better speaks to them... they are coming to look at something they like; and what better way to find that out, than to involve them in the creation process itself?

Engaging the viewers is essential; not just on the level of playing the guitar.

When you go to a concert, you see the bands talk about the songs what the songs mean to them, they put the microphone toward the crowds to let them sing certain verses.

You don't just see someone playing an instrument... you see a show with the audience involved. They are playing for the audience...not just because they "can" play.

Keep that in mind.

Your friend should consider creating his own song about something that's trending right now.

The best way to get a video to go viral is to latch onto trends and make fun of them. YouTubers eat it up.

Here some guys are inspiring you to use bots. But bots can kill your hard works. Youtube is not so dumb. They have a fraud detection system that they are using to detect bots using IP address of the pc where the bot is installed. So dont be crazy. Just use social platforms to promote your video. I am damn sure you would get some video views from quality traffic.

Join minimum 10 new groups a day related to the topic of you videos.
Post your video links with a an attractive picture to get more views.Also you talk to people and friends to do the same. And even hire few guys form other countries to do the work for cheap.

Ask people with a related video/channel and a lot of views to accept your video as a video response.

You can advertise your video using adwords for YouTube. This is a legit and much better option than trying to buy views from 3rd party sites. You can also build backlinks to your video so that it ranks well on Youtube and Google and this will result in more views. You can use some of the reputed fiver gigs to build backlinks.

I know someone who rakes in around $1000 a day from his guitar videos on YouTube.
What you are doing is fairly good in terms of optimisation, but also be aware that an important factor is the age of the video. I would not recommend buying views, likes or comments as you will either lose your video or your account in time.

Did you try the Featured Channels option? Find popular/semi-popular YouTubers with similar audience, and partner with them. You like and recommend them, they like and recommend you. It's music. People love to like, recommend, share and talk about it.

Use Fiverr, Social Media, Forums and blog posts to push your videos.

I also suggest using a Twitter software like TweetAdder to automatically post your videos in a timely manner.

I think a lot of it comes down to type of content. One friend and I made 3 videos and over 8 months got less than 1000 views. But they were educational and not terribly exciting. I have another friend who along with a crew of folks made a series of 3 videos, each of which have 5-10 million views. His are a lot more exciting.

Make sure to ask for likes, comments, subscribes - So when you do get viewers you can maximize the result by getting engaged viewers, not just views

Consistant update schedule, interesting and informative videos, telling viewers to subscribe, of course keyword optimize your video titles, descriptions and tags, etc.

As a side note, there are tons of really good guitar videos on YouTube, he should do something to make his stand out like make them in a public place or while teaching others. He can also make them in a recording studio or booth to add credibility. (just brainstorming here...lol)

Use Google keyword tool to zone in on better keywords or phrases, and then use those keywords in the following

your video file name on your computer,
your video title,
in your video description several times,
in your subtitle,
in your tags,

YouTube is a social networking sites too. Try to subscribe to other channel and build good relationship with them. Make your video play automatically to increase views and also ask the viewers to rate the video.

Pay related Facebook pages with tons of fans to post a link to the video to their wall.

Once you get some traction, do some Facebook/Video swaps. I had a guy just last night with a 2,000,000 view channel approach me for a swap. I posted his video to my FB wall and he placed a link to one of my Facebook fangates in the video description. I delivered him quite a few views. I got a permanent link to my fangate.

If your friend has other web properties to leverage with swaps, do it.

Facebook is really good for promoting. join related groups.post in there.go to related fan pages....post in popular comment threads.
create your own fan page, build up your following and direct people to that channel.
promote it on facebook. boost the post...etc

Share the video everywhere you can get eyes on it. Use keywords that people are searching for. Email your list if you have one with your video. Use a site that allows you to post your video on multiple sites.
