Make a killing with wordpress/social media

I am seeing that there are many businesses needing wordpress development help and social media strategies. I am not 100% confident in the abilities I have all around. Should I just fake it til I make it or outsource? Ideas...

If they're hiring out, chances are pretty good that you'll be better at it than they are, and you don't get great without doing, so outsourcing is only a bandaid.

Ye, fake it - happens all the time.
Even huge companies accept jobs they have not done before, they just hope they have the skills to pull it off.

You can always outsource parts of the job, if your not able to handle it all

I believe that jeffduhon was truly asking for advice. I wonder, is this really what you believe? Is this a sincere effort on your part to be helpful?

Life in fact is not just smoke and mirrors. It can be as rich and fulfilling as you choose to make it.

If I understand the question, you are considering offering your services to others who need help with wordpress and social media. This may be a fruitful area for you, for a couple of reasons.

First, if you know anything at all about wordpress or anything to do with the internet, you know more than most people. So whatever expertise you have could be of real help to others.

Second, many people do not have the time or inclination to do these sorts of things. They will gladly pay you reasonable fees to solve a problem for them.

Third, you can always learn more. You may start with obtaining hosting for your customers and installing WordPress. Upload a few photos and some paragraphs of text and your customer will have a functioning website. That is something of value and it will be something that your customers with be quite proud of.

You can keep it simple at first, and just use the default template. You'll be able to make nice sites. As you read and learn and your skills grow you may become more adventurous, but you probably don't need to. Sometimes simple sites communicate their message better than the fancy ones.

How much could you make by building inexpensive sites and then charging a few dollars per month to maintain them? Most sites need very little maintenance. With a little planning and patience you could grow quite a nice empire.

Faking it till you make it only makes you a fake. I wouldn't recommend you do that. You only get one reputation and if you ruin it with smoke and mirrors then that's pretty much the game for you.

The best route to take would be to become 100% confident in those abilities and when the time comes to outsource or what-have-you, you will know what needs to be done and how it is to be done.

I know it sucks to have to wait to get good at something and then slowly and surely reap the benefits but anything worth having is worth working for. Just my 2¢.
