Question about social media/membership site platform software

Hi,

I'd like to pick the brains of the assembled experts.

I want to build several community/social media sites that offer a paid membership option. I looked at Ning but their charges are high.

Does anyone use a platform they'd recommend?

Kind regards

Nic

    Nic,

What are you trying to do?

Is the paid option for content unlocking, a private forum, a private membership or...?

For membership stuff you can use:

Kajabi or customerhub or you can adapt WP for your needs.

Forums, I've used V bulletin - they're not to hard to get up and running.

I would recommend Digital Access Pass for your back-end. I currently use it for my recurring billing membership site and it does the job nicely. For my front end I use OptimisePress. I'm not into designing websites so OP handles all of the different pages for me. Lastly to complete the trio I use Easy Vidoe Player. This handles then delivery/hosting of my videos and many more.

Did mention with DAP you can drip feed the content.

    Hope this helps.

PS: make sure you do the research on what you want specifically, use google and YouTube to research reviews and get a better feel of what you want before you invest in it.

Kajabi is what we moved all our other solutions to.

It gets updated regularly, and is my highly recommended option. I can even offer you a tour to see if its the kind of thing you'd like. My clients spend ages messing with other solution, but Kajabi is what the top end "guru" marketers use too...

    Hi Guys

many thanks for your responses. I am setting up a social media site/membership site that will have 2 tier membership. I will be providing some content, the community will provide some via a forum. Therefore I need a forum, a store, a membership module as well as the basics.

I've looked at using wordpress with various plugins but I'm a little nervous about security issues.

I've narrowed it down to Premium Web Cart with a Wordpress front end and Simpleress pluging for the forum or a completely hosted version, Spruz. It's been a useful exercise as I've looked at lots of different options before coming down to these two. I've selected Spruz ahead of Ning mainly due to value for money for the features offered.

    Thanks again,

    Nic

Buddypress is a good option. I build 5 of them and no-problem! The only bad thing is to find a good theme!
