Somebody show me I'm wrong about social media

All the google+'s, likes, facebook friends and tweeting seems like a total waste of time to me. It makes you feel productive after you spend an hour a day updating, linking and pinteresting but what do you get from it? Nothing as far as I'm concerned. Somebody show me I'm wrong.

It's not that its not affective, you just have to apply the right social media methods & post great content thru those mediums. You can have all the facebook friends in the world and all the twitter fans, but if your not posting content that your fanbase wants to read, its useless. If your running a facebook fanpage, start a facebook ppc campaign and target the keywords to your specific niche so its more targeted. Also, if your using a personal page, you can target the friends you add to your page as well. And the same goes for twitter. Join facebook groups related to your niche and post about your pages, your reach will be more targeted, instead of adding people blindly.

I think that you are utterly wrong. All the social media sites have strong power to generate more traffic and that would lead sell. Just do one think. If you have your own site then collect some Facebook likes. There are lots of sites who would give you free Facebook likes if you want to meet their condition as well. Just do it and see some traffic result.

I think it really all depends on the niche and your target market. There are some niches where the target market doesn't even use Facebook/Twitter - so using social media for promotion would be a total waste of time other than maybe the bonus backlinks, but even that is sketchy. (I stopped paying attention to getting traffic from Google, lol).

The key is to produce something that gets people talking and makes them want to share it on their own - that way you don't have to do the work to promote it. I had one article a few years ago that got 120,000 pageviews in one month and I didn't promote it at all. I no longer own the website to say how its performing now, but it is an example of how if you produce quality, you can drastically save yourself the constant promoting cycle. You have to ask yourself, what will people in my niche be excited to share with others?

From what I've read so far, you are trying your best to be an enthusiastic at social media networking. Social networking is 99% of what the average person does. You need to rethink and become enthusiastic about social media marketing. The first one builds fans, followers and friends. The second one converts them to customers and makes money. Your Facebook page should have an irresistible offer from the git go the moment a visitor opens your page. They need to be so wow'd by your offer the first time they arrive that they give you their contact information. Do not ever think a visitor will return to your page in this lifetime. Understanding this, do what it takes to get their info quickly.

Sorry. Not convinced. Let me put it this way in terms of return on investment. I have a freelance writing gig where I earn from $50 to $75 an hour. I use it to fill in the gaps between consulting clients. How am I better off using one hour for social media than earning that $50?

I think that there are just way too many people who are doing the same thing there.

I personally tried to use these mediums to get traffic. Did not work for me like I wanted.

The only way to take advantage of Twitter and Facebook is to actually use their PPC section. This is the way to go in my view.

Buying followers on both of these networks is a waste of time.
