What is Facebook "Edge Rank" ? and how to use it to our benefit ?

"EdgeRank" is the formula Facebook uses to determine what gets shown
in people’s newsfeeds. This formula which is public, unlike Google's and
Yahoo's, is the summation of 3 different factors.
These factors are Affinity, Weight, and Time decay.

Affinity: is the measure of previous interaction a user has had with another
user on Facebook. These interactions can be likes, comments, or
shares. The more of these you have from a specific user, the more your
posts show up in that person’s newsfeed.

For example;
I'm friends with my Sister on Facebook. In addition, I write frequently on her wall, and we have twenty mutual friends. I have a very high Affinity score with my Sister, so Facebook knows I'll probably want to see her status updates, likes & shares.

Weight is the measure of the amount of activity on a picture, post, video
or any other object. The more likes, comments, and shares you have, the
more weight that post has. This weight tells Facebook that a post is
more current and relevant than a post with only a few comments or likes .

Small tip:
When you update your status or post anything of facebook always add a picture or a video (must be relevant), they tend to get "more weight" then just plain text posts.

Time Decay:
is the inversely proportional relationship between the
amount of time an object has been public and its exposure in the
"newsfeed". In simplified terms, this is the exposure over time. The
newer a post is, the more exposure it has, or as a story gets older, it loses points because it's "old news".
The way to fight this is to keep up the weight of the post. To slow the effect of time decay make sure your posts are relevant and engaging.

"What should i do to increase my "Edge Rank" score ?"

There are a few thing you can do to increase your "Edge Rank" score on facebook:

• Always encourage interaction. This keeps all three factors working
for you.

• Always use pictures/videoa & links. This will make your posts more engaging,
and this will create more interaction.

• Comment back individually by using @tagging to ensure multiple
comments from each person you interact with.

• Post consistently.
Posting once per day is enough to keep your content fresh and it is more then enough to keep your "Edge Rank" score high.

PLEASE DO NOT LISTEN to those who tell that you need to post every 30 minutes or so.
That is completely not a necessity for drawing fans to your page or getting higher
"Edge Rank" score, just make sure you post things that are relevant.

GOOD LUCK to you all with "Cracking the Edge Rank"
