The major source of traffic from social networks are facebook and twitter. I am looking out for your options on which one you think is the best traffic source to concentrate on to drive targeted traffic.

so facebook or twitter which gives more targeted traffic?
#facebook #twitter

Pinterest is very good for visually rich sites and blogs that post many photo collections. For instance, Pinterest works with niches such as gardening; home; fitness; parenting; art, etc as these niches are more likely to publish more photos. Even niches such as internet marketing can benefit from Pinterest, so long as the blogger publishes tutorials that include infographics or or other interesting photos.

Maybe I'm the odd one, but I have always gotten way better results from Twitter. I do get a bunch of Facebook traffic from my share buttons on my blog, but Twitter converts into subscribers at a higher rate for me.

A lot of people will not have the same results, but its been consistent since my site's inception.

To be honest, your time will be better spent on YouTube than anywhere else as far as social traffic goes. I know a bunch of people who make full time income just posting videos, but no one who makes hardly any income directly from using facebook or twitter.

Hi - I believe it depends on the niche and on what works for you. I'm just redeveloping my site around social media and I am expecting to get more from Twitter than anthing else. I will send out 6 news or info tweets for each sales tweet and build up a following that way.

FB and Google Plus are harder work but can be harnessed too I think. And in time, Google results will take in FB likes as well as Tweets, which they are doing now. (Tweets.)

In any case, social is the way to go, so I say focus on getting good with two social services, including Twitter, then add another one later when you can.

And test and measure which one is working for you and spend most time on that one.

For me it's Twitter since I have lots more followers there than on Facebook. Also, you can send many more tweets on Twitter than you can send messages on FB without being seen as being, uhm, overly active.

But if you have a huge number of folks who like your FB page, you may get great results with FB too.

So it depends on you and YOUR FB page and/or Twitter followers, and on your niche as well, I would expect. And on the quality of your tweets...

I'd have to say Twitter is the winner. With Twitter you can find people searching for terms in your niche and address them easily. With Twitter you can quickly put messages in front of people who are following prominent people in your market. It is easier to obtain a following.

Facebook on the other hand is the more "sustainable" platform. Use Twitter to drive people to both your own site and your Facebook page allowing your new Facebook fans to spread the word deeper into Facebook.

The point you raised on twitter is what makes a lettle fast compared to facebook, but facebook has other ways too get attention to ones site like tagging, wall posting, group posting and fanpage commenting with ones website url.

I personally would target facebook and Google+ over twitter based purely on the fact of where these 2 giants are headed with Social Media.

    a) Google have already said they have a toolkit capable of scanning Google+ that will provide more targeted results based on a businesses profile and feedback.

    b) Facebook have also admitted at some point they will be looking to expand there search option to replicate a standard search engine.

Twitter will eventually have to follow suit or get left in the dark ages but there's been no comment from Twitter about including a search engine of some sort.

This. Facebook is going in a direction I don' like anymore. Its much harder to reach your targeted audience now and that's why I'd choose twitter.

Well, it kind of depends on where your market spend the most time, doesn't it?

In terms of getting publicity, I've had great success with Twitter. Actual real media contacts, but not a lot of sales.

Facebook, I'm not a fan. I'm really just there because you're "supposed" to be there. With the IPO, they changed their algorithms, so that only about 16% of your fans actually see your content. Unless, of course you go with "promoted" posts. (ie: you have to pay for your fans to see the content that they opted in to see) This will range depending on how big your audience is. I have about 3600 fans, and it costs me $75 to promote ONE post. Yeah, thanks Zuck. And, I haven't gotten a lot of sales with them either.

Youtube, I'm venturing into next...I'm curious to see the results, but I do believe video is where most people are heading.

Google+ I literally just signed up this week. Don't even have the link on my site yet. The only reason why I'm there is because Google changed its algorithm so that it will give more love to sites that have more +1s. Annnnnd, they're changing (if they haven't already) Google reviews so that only people with a Google+ account can actually review a business.

Actually, in terms of sales, I haven't gotten much out of Social Media. However, it does build credibility in my niche (where there are a lot of scammers) and allows people the "real world" contact that they need with me.

I wouldn't depend on either of them for targeted traffic, you may develop a large fan base on Facebook or a bunch of followers on twitter but you won't have that much of sales. It's because the nature of social sites and why people hang out there ? not for buying stuff more than socializing and sharing funny and cool stuff.

If you still want free social traffic then Youtube would be your best bet, and of course advertising on facebook still a good paid option.

    • Based on our test results, what you get from Facebook and Twitter PPC and free advertising/marketing campaigns depend on the niche. For instance:

Our company sources Facebook's local membership base for the employees we need. We have local presence in our target local areas and accreditation as well as a license to operate in these local areas from our national government. Our PPC campaigns in Facebook are constantly providing us with excellent results, in terms of RoI...

We develop and implement paid and free Twitter ad and marketing campaigns for some of our product manufacturer clients with their own target local markets (in a wide variety of countries). These are mostly updates about discount offers, freebies/bundled incentives or rewards, coupons or vouchers and so on. Our product manufacturer clients constantly get excellent results from these paid and free advertising and marketing campaigns in Twitter...

Our own local paid and free advertising and marketing campaigns in Twitter for sourcing qualified people to test and hire as our employees didn't give us the results we need, in terms of RoI. Based on our analysis, our target local markets are neither interested in looking for jobs, nor even thinking about these things, when they're spending time in Twitter. Instead, they subconsciously feel the urge to start looking for a job (if they're unemployed at the moment) and to improve their financial portfolios (by getting better jobs or working two day jobs or so) when they're spending time in Facebook, most likely because they learn about the careers of their friends and colleagues from Facebook, and they thereby subconsciously compare their own careers with the careers of their friends and colleagues...

The local paid and free advertising and marketing campaigns we developed and implemented for our clients in Facebook didn't give us (and our clients) the results we need, in terms of RoI. Based on our analysis, our clients' target local markets are neither interested in getting product updates, discount offers, cash vouchers/coupons, incentive/reward offers and so on, nor even thinking about these things, when they're spending time in Facebook. Instead, they subconsciously feel the urge to collect these discount offers, special promos, cash vouchers/coupons, incentive/reward offers and so on for a wide variety of products when they're getting updates in Twitter, most likely because they believe these are time-sensitive offers that they should avail of before it's gone for good. Most Twitter users subscribe to local media groups to get updates about the latest Earth-shattering, ground-breaking news, especially things that can affect their lives, so most of them feel some sort of urgency (not the same level of urgency when they get these ground-breaking news, though it's somewhat close) when they get updates about special offers and promos from product manufacturers and distributors that they well know of...

Both platforms have their benefits, but Facebook was the big winner in most of these categories:
    • 85% of users are on Facebook while only 49% of users are on Twitter
    • 29% of users follow a brand on Twitter, while 58% of users have "liked" a brand on Facebook
    • 57% of Facebook users have 100+ friends, which means if you engage with one, the likelier you are to get noticed by several more.
    • Virtual personas are clearer on Facebook for obvious reasons, making it easier to target audiences and improve engagement

Well, if we are talking about targeted traffic then there are lots of factors which can award different positions to these social media giants in different scenarios. Both Facebook and Twitter are shining high in their own empire. The point is: which one of them do you like/you use more. Because at the end of the day, it's you who's going to work on it so the more you know the system the more you can improvise. Finally when you keep improvising, you keep winning

Both Facebook and Twitter are exceptional and staple social media networks that should be used, mainly, to build, develop, and maintain relationships with others. The byproducts are website traffic, branding, and some help in search engine positioning/ranking. I experience success with both social media networks. My verdict is definitely use both. Besides, there is a good reason you usually see both advertisers alongside a company in just about every TV commercial today.

I really think it depends on the demographics of your target audience. From a social perspective, you should participate in the same circles your customers do.

Aside from that, I personally think there's more interaction on Facebook. It's more personal and allows you to strengthen relationships. Don't rule out Google + and Pinterest either. Those two places are important sources for followers as well!

I use both but, Twitter hands down is still my #1 traffic referrer between the both. I get more twitter shares on my blog than through facebook. But, I have 79k followers, the biggest thing is that whenever I send a promotional tweet, I get about 100+ clicks on the URL, but with all the testing, Social Media traffic really doesn't convert well.

I sometimes make sales through my tweets, but 100 twitter clicks and 100 email clicks is a BIG difference in responsiveness. The way I see it is Social Media users are busy and constantly checking out different status and links, so they're less likely to pay attention and buy a product rather email subscribers that zero in on the email.

Its not really a good idea to limit yourself to one since you have the capability.
For me I tend to prioritize facebook because of the "viral" nature of your post being seen not unless you have a lot of loyal followers re-tweeting your status. Also the "subscribe" option on facebook clearly does same as what twitter does.

    Cheers!

I get more "clicks" from Twitter, but more action from FB. Both will work for you. Twitter takes less time so you can just post and forget it. FB takes a little more time because people will ask questions via comments section, but (for me) the pay off is better. Don't leave out Pinterest. They have become a good source of traffic, AND these people have money, and BUY!

They both have their own specific advantages, but I prefer Facebook. It's overall a lot more sophisticated, more popular. Twitter is full of spam and fake followers and people don't pay as much attention to their Twitter accounts as to their Facebook accounts...

The response rate on Facebook is also higher...

Well it depends. You cannot measure directly which one has more traffic unless you test the both. It still depends on how you build your network and what marketing strategies do you use.

In terms of the number of subscribers, Facebook has more than Twitter. But it is all about targeting the people who have the propensity to buy your products and services. Market research is needed before you venture into any kind of business.

Go to facebook. Its very simple to use, plus the facebook groups can help you a lot get traffic and social proof that you need to brand yourself as a leader. ( just find some groups that are active and connect with those active leaders in your group and make them your syndicate.

Facebook PPC is very good as well in getting leads.

A new report from retail analytics and research company, Rich Relevance, found that compared to other channels, Facebook dominates to the tune of 85.8% of online retail traffic. Facebook's new ad offering, the Sponsored Story has been doing very well too, in some cases outperforming traditional PPC ads on the platform.

Newcomer to the social sharing space, Pinterest has found phenomenal success and now commands about 11.3% of all online shopping sessions. Twitter was third with a paltry 2.9%.

I think it is equally important to be active on both social networks.

Twitting is definitely easier way and more intuitive somehow than writting posts on Facebook. There is also the important concept of author authority or influence to consider. Search engines could potentially determine people's level of influence by looking at the number of followers they have and how many people they themselves follow (to many followers and just a few follofwing people).

On the other hand if you want to increase the result for searches on Bing and not just on Google it would be great to use Facebook, since the Bing has a partnership with Facebook that allows it to access data on user behavior on Facebook
and use that to influence rankings and the presentation of its search results.

You are certainly right. When I do seo for client we consider twitter using right anchor linking strategies and tweeter tren. But the thing with twetter is that you have to keep the tweet updated to stay on top. If facebook is more updated then facebook comes on top.

But the issue here is not ranking but direct traffic either from tweeter or facebook.

Man you are right. The aim is to get preference and which one is of ge rate help to drive targeted traffic.

It's not always the same. Some people find facebook really good source of traffic, some find twitter a lot better, other find pinterest or linkedIn much helpful.

I am using both facebook and twitter but i think that twitter is better then facebook to get more targeted traffic because twitter has speedily developed brand awareness and a loyal following, specifically among the technically adept; bloggers, online marketers, essentially anyone with something to promote seem to find Twitter highly beneficial.

I do both ...its quick, easy and very effective.

Facebook is a great way of adding valuable content that requires more than just 140 characters ... done properly it can REALLY drive traffic, generating tons of leads and sales.

I'll go with Twitter they have filter in their search using hashtags. It's easy to look for someone related on your website's niche. It's easy to connect with them. just build strong relationship there by right communication and right information-sharing.

Facebook is not the first social network but it is the most popular one. There have been many other social networks before Facebook and while some of them were popular at some point in time, none could reach the popularity of Facebook. In addition to keeping in touch with your friends, Facebook can be (and is) used for business. You can use it to promote your products and services, to acquire new clients, or to get traffic to your site.

Like Twitter, Facebook is just one of the many ways to get some traffic to your site. Many marketers believe that it is just a matter of time for the traffic from Facebook, Twitter and the other major social networking sites to surpass the traffic their sites get from Google.

It depends on what you are aiming for. If you want it for your business why don't you do both? It is a great idea since both of them are very active and both of these social media have a lot of users. What is great if you use both is you can create a lot of traffic for your business.

I agree with the posters who say that YouTube is the way to go. I have not used it yet, but have read a lot about it. After that, I would choose Facebook. I use Twitter too, but even though I have a lot of followers, it is not a steady thing. Some days seem to be better than others there. Good luck!
