To promote blog you need brainstorming strategy in social media. In these days good traffic you can get only from social media. Be active in social sites - facebook, pinterest, twitter etc. Give something away for free and build your list.
Try to write unique content in your blog with embedded video in article. Then spin your article and submit to some web 2.0 (squidoo, blogspot, etc). To videos and web 2.0 add mass social bookmarks with drip feed but for your blogs unique post add only safe bookmarks manually (folkd, stumbleupon, delicious etc.).
I have more than 100 videos in YouTube and most of them are in the first page of google with different keywords and VIDEO is #1 free traffic source.
Don't waste your time in any other backlinking use only video, social networking and social bookmarking.
