Twitter marks my link as spam

Not sure if anyone has ever experienced this but it is quite frustrating and can't get anyone at twitter to respond or help resolve the issue.

Anytime I or any of my followers try to tweet a link to my site, twitter doesn't allow it and says that it's a malicious link or spam or something. So I've filed a ticket numerous times with no response. Part of filing a ticket requires you to run a google diagnostic to see if your site is actually malicious in anyway. Of course, google shows our site as completely clean and secure.

Any ideas from anyone on what the issue may be or how to solve it? Frustrating. Luckily, there seems to be a temporary workaround. If we use a link shortener, we are able to post these links.

  • Interesting, I have not experienced that yet! Have you cloaked these links that were allegedly marked as spam?

    • sorry if stupid question, but what do you mean by cloaking? it seems to mark my main domain as spam so any link to any page on my site isn't allowed to be posted (unless shortened with something like bit.ly)
  • I had one of my clients have that problem. It was because they had a affiliate program and some of the other affiliate abused the link/domain.

      people tweet links to our contests after entering, maybe that has something to do with it?

    Putting links in Twitter is a no no...It's part of the system maintenance of Twitter. I did not encounter this yet. But I think you could submit a reconsideration for your request not to ban you if ever.

      It seems that every single tweet contains a link.
  • The problem could be on your website itself, which the Twitter team might have thought of it as a malicious site.

    Your website, my friend, has been probably suspected of spreading malware, phishing attacks, and other harmful activity. It is deemed as potentially dangerous site.

    You mentioned that you have tried using a link shortener without getting spam marks. Why not continue doing that.

    • the thing is that when you run a check on our site with google diagnostics, it comes up as perfectly clean. this is what twitter says they check to determine if a site/account is malicious. so i'm not sure what the issue is

      i'll have no choice but to continue using link shorteners, but i'd rather not if theres a way around it. no reason for twitter to be marking us as suspicious

  • Links in twitter are absolutely not a no-no. I post links on twitter all the time. Cloak your links using yourls or some other self-hosted link shortening software. you can also shorten your links using Twitter-approved services like google's url shortening.
  • Never put the link of your site directly on twitter you should use a shortening url service for that.
  • I still have this issue with our domain on Twitter and am unable to figure out the cause. Would really appreciate any input from any one or if I could be pointed in the right direction. There's no way to contact Twitter for any support either.
  • Have you scanned the domain on Sucuri.net to see if there are any known issues with it?

    • I scanned it with google diagnostics, which is what Twitter recommends, and it shows the site as completely clean with no issues

  • It could be people using your domain in their direct messages and many people probably complained and now the link is banned. Especially if you are running contest, people looking for votes etc... spamming your domain name everywhere.

    Use this link to contact twitter support and tell them directly under the correct category.

    • I have tried contacting twitter support many times, with no response whatsoever. Not sure what else to do
  • I've had this kind of problem because the web service I used was marked as a dangerous site. Now I use a free srcipt I installed on my host (yoururl) and I don't have any problem of that kind anymore. I get a free domain name at dot.tk and I use it for my short link.
