I look at it as a component of SEO that can't be ignored. I've found it to help with SEO with my sites and I'm sure others have experienced the same. Think about it, if your new blog post is legitimately found to be share worthy by a few thousand Twitter users then you are going to see traffic as a result.

And chances are, in addition to Twitter backlinks, you'll get backlinks from real websites and blogs. You can't look at it as a simple numbers game. Buying a thousand retweets isn't going to do much when compared to even a hundred genuine retweets. I look at social media as an excellent tool for getting the word out and it fairs very well in this area.

Just look at the big dogs like Mashable. Their posts are being shared by thousands upon thousands of users. You can't say this isn't helping them out in the search engine game as well.

  • Social Media really help Search engine optimization (SEO). The traffic that a website can get will totally increase if the person doing social media marketing knows how to benefit from it.

First and foremost, the key in effectively using social media for the betterment of your site lies in your site itself. The contents of your website is the most important thing. Be sure that your website or what you are promoting can really be attractive for your target audience. Because of the fact that millions of people in different countries are suing social media, business people now are given the chance to promote their brand and build a good name online.
All you have to do is do more improvements in what you are promoting for the people to grow more interests.

It does, the more engagement you get on social networks, the better your website will be recognized on search engines. It's called Social Signals
In fact, I got my keyword's rank increased from 10 to 8 via a contest on Facebook

absolutely social media is needed for SEO!

    1. I started a new site with new.domain and all
I did was simply add some YouTube vidoes
and then share on.twitter and faebook...

and not only did.all my content get indexed
but it was rankin really well!

Google tracks where videos are embedded
google tracks all tweets and social links

Why? simple, they were falling behind in
the content game by only ranking old
content! so they needed to make that change!

and if you really wanna kill it with social
then use Google+, their publishers id, etc!

The greatest sales tool has always been word of mouth advertising. Social Media is exactly that word of mouth advertising.
A good social media campaign will bring you way more traffic then a page 1 Google ranking.
Social Signals are an important part of Googles ranking algo these days.
The top trafficked websites are all Social Media sites.

SEO is all about optimizing your site to get a better chance of being seen by more people, social media is one great tool to help you optimize your site's potential. There are two things I love about using social media; 1. It is free 2. It is real time and it can go viral...

Think of "gangnam style" without youtube and facebook.. It wouldn't be such a hit without the two.

Videos, tweets and photos in social media sites easily gets indexed and can amp your rankings pretty well.

However you also have to take some points into consideration; 1. Social skills to keep your audience tuned (people hate spamming so be very cautious ) 2. How to target the right audience

    Hi kimseo!

    Yes definitely!

It's the next road of SEO. SEO professionals are now more engaging in social media such as press release, facebook posts, twitter posts, and other social network sites. Google finds the links of social sites to be of great value.

You can gain great results, when you syndicate your content especially videos in social sites. Ping or get the links of those social sites and index it. You can do this by using only wire. This is a great boost to your SEO rankings.

As far as backlinks and driving traffic is concern , I completely agree with you but I still have few concerns

        1. Social media's backlinks (or bookmarks) are too deep to provide any link juice or value
E.g. Check this thread , It's PR N/A. i don't think it can provide any juice to the signature links or any other links on this page.
        What do you say?

        2. Most of the social media portals offer nofollow links . Are they helpful ?

    Simple Answer. Yes.

Is word of mouth effective at bringing new people in and driving sales? I think you know the answer to that one, social media is no different. The only difference is that it is online and therefore has a much greater reach into many areas, google and seo is a small fraction of it.

Yes! Social sharing is becoming a factor in page ranking. I was researching a post for my blog and social media/SEO are coming together. I've been looking at Bing because I'm just OVER Google and Bing factors social sharing into search results. It's going to be interesting in the next couple of years

For the beginners like me, I found the social media as one of the most powerful platform in the web. You can have traffic what you want and possibly targeted traffic depends on how you harnessed its resources. Proper optimization is needed and when it does, you'll be able to see that it helps your site gain traffic and ranks also.

Social media helps in a big way. Most people may not visit your site, but when an article url is posted in the social media networks, people will follow the link and read your articles. The content you post will determine if they will keep visiting your site or not. That is v. gd traffic for you. You can then build a list from there.

It depends on the type of media and the spots where you do the social media marketing. By spots I mean, the spots within the social media sites. For example, if you are looking for a jump in search engine rankings, you need to get mentions and links from public pages that the search engines have access to. For instance, the search engine can index twitter tweets, pinterest pins and Google plus public posts. Google doesn't have access to facebook or linkedin private pages. So if you are concentrating on search engine rankings trough social media marketing, you should seriously participate in twitter, pinterest and Google plus and encourage real people in these networks to share your content along with the links. Remember that you would see the effect in terms of SEO only when real people start sharing your posts in social media virally.

Social Media is taking it's place, but as compare to other social networks you've to focus on Google+ it's developed by Google and you can't ingnore it! But, don't think you'll share a post and it will be indexed in Search Engines. You also need to engage and collaborate with other people, at this moment Google+ is offering "Follow" links.

Social media has absolutely no affect on google rank. Absolute 0. Social media may have great impact on traffic to your site, ultimately driving your site's alexa rank to more desirable position. However, if you attempt to link build from social media, E.G., tumbler (although these links are no-follow), in this case it will help your site to gain some recognition in terms of serps.

    Hope that helps

Ask people to "LIKE" your Facebook page everywhere. Ask on your Facebook page, on your website, in any advertising, and in your brick and mortar stores. The more individuals "LIKE" your page, the more they will spread information about your brand. This is a great way to increase business as well as your SEO rankings.
