Facebook Page likes confusion

I have recently built a Facebook page in a niche I am interested in. I started it by paying for a Facebook ad to basically "like" my page. Within 3 days I received about 1400 likes to the page and each time I update the page with a post they now get plenty of shares, comments and post likes.

This is all good and I am happy with the results of the ad campaign but since I stopped the ad, the number of likes to the page has stayed exactly the same but thankfully the status updates are getting plenty of likes, shares and comments still.

Basically, I am confused. What I want to know is will my overall "fan base" still grow virally without the ad campaign? Or is the stagnant number of "page likes" an indicator that I am not getting any new fans onto the page but just the same people returning time and again to like my status updates?

I hope that all makes sense. I guess what I really want to know is, will my fanbase still grow without the help of the facebook ad campaign now that I have 1400 page likes?

Just as an extra question, are the total "page likes" all unique people or could that number include the same people liking the page a number of times? One final question, when somebody likes a status update, does that increase the number of page likes as well?

Sorry for the number of questions but I guess this shows how confused my brain is!

It depends if your page has a keyword phrase title with some exact match search volume, and if you are ranking on Google and in a Facebook search for that phrase. It depends if your page has a viral element that might lead to people sharing it with their friends. Most pages don't. If you were to continue a Facebook Ads campaign, you would need to have a landing page that made money, like lead to immediate sales, but if it worked well the first time, and you're starting to see a return on investment from the ad campaign, then maybe you should try it again. Or, you might consider making another page that did have a keyword phrase as the title, chosen carefully with proper keyword research.

Thank you for your answer and I understand what you are saying. I don't have a problem with the viral element and the making money from it is not an issue either at this point.

The posts themselves are getting plenty of shares, likes and comments like I say but since the ad campaign stopped the number of actual "page likes" (the number visible at the top of the facebook page) has stayed the same. This is what I am confused about the most.

This means absolutely nothing as far as spreading your page on Facebook.

The real answer is that if your fans are engaging (liking, responding, posting) then the page will grow. Also if you do the occasional promoted post your page will grow.

Thank you for your answer. I was wondering about the promoted post and what difference that would make, I will try that. The fans are engaging and are very active on the posts so I hope the fan base will grow. I will have to try and understand all the insights info as well as I think that will help.

  • You have made a good start. If you don't plan to get Facebook ads again, then what you need to do is to improve it yourself by creating more alluring posts. Encourage your likers to also help you in promoting the said page. Mini Facebook page contests can also help you, those things boost peoples' interests.

This is all very exciting for me. I have read plenty from other people about success with Facebook pages and it was always something I wanted to try. I am learning all the time about how to make things go viral and a facebook contest sounds very exciting. i will have to do a search here about how to do it.

I haven't ruled out Facebook ads again but my idea was to build up an initial fan base from it and then hope that the fans will make it go viral. Obviously my posts have to be good enough though.

Yes, try those. I wish you good luck! Just make sure that the contest that you will have will be very nice, I mean, you must create a contest which is really worth joining.

    Hi

    What usually works is this

    1. Do 3-4 different ads
    2. Get around 4k likes in total
    3. Keep posting good content on page
    4. As a result people will start sharing your page and eventually it will go viral

I have done a lot of social media as campaigns and this always works. It also depends on your niche/market.

    Hope that helps

how much you paid for the likes brought through Facebook ads?

My guess is that you paid about 0.60 - 0.80 $ USD per each 1 like,
while you could have bought from outside Facebook, real facebook likes
    for just 0.01 - 0.03 $ per 1 like...
