My Organic Pages Generate 1000's of followers and kick purchased LIKES A$$

I am a full time IM and work with local businesses in the UK.
I see a lot of people posting about purchasing followers and Facebook Likes and always wonder why? Is it to do with kudos or do people expect to be able to sell to their purchased audience.
In my humble experience (I manage 9 pages for clients) organically grown pages and accounts do far better than pages where we paid for followers.
The quality tends to be far higher and also we get a lot less spam.
It does of course take longer to build an audience however this can be done cheaply on Facebook at least using Facebook Ads.
For example I had a US client who wanted to grow his page following for a specific event. I created and ran an add that generated a few thousand new very targetted 'LIKES' extremely quickly for just 5 cents a pop.
