In my personal opinion is, facebook marketing is costly. Also you can get lower sell from facebook marketing. People open a facebook page for SEO purpose and not for getting sells.

Most of the Facebook users ( real users ) use it for their friends and family and they do not like any commercial ads, link in facebook post. Please share your thought?

Facebook is getting stronger and stronger. Yes the advertising is expensive just like Google because marketers who have deep funnels can pay more and drive up the cost. You can build a audience on Facebook and communicate value for FREE. There are 1 billion plus users and growing. How are they fading again?

Thomas Edison took 10,000 attempts to perfect the light bulb. You have not experienced true frustration or anywhere close. Think of that every time you are frustrated.

True dat. By screwing up the first time you are now actually 1 step closer to having Facebook ads work for you. Now you know one thing that doesn't work. So keep on trying until you find the one thing that DOES work.

This quote is made over and over by people who say 'never give up' .. the OP gave up something that was not working, this was a good thing, just like Thomas Edison gave up on 10,000 dead ends before he found the correct path. (incidentally he was looking for a proper filament for the light bulb that would not burn out fast. He tried thousands of different materials unsuccessfully until he found the correct path which was to fill the bulb with an inert gas, preventing oxygen from touching the filament, and hence no burning out)

The point is that you need to know when to stop following a loosing path, and those 'never give up' posts sometimes can do more harm than good. What the OP was doing was not working, so he should give up on it, and move to something else. Not give up on Facebook, but give up on the dead end path and try a different one.

That being said, the biggest mistake people make is that they try to target an ad at a sales page. This is a horrible idea. People are not in a buyers state of mind on Facebook. The sales pages will not convert well.

Not necessarily, ad campaigns on FaceBook are costly and some people don't have the money to test conversions continuously until it works. If the OP has been doing it for awhile and he feels that it's only losing him money, then what's wrong with choosing an alternate method of driving traffic?

Like I mentioned above, the OP can just choose a different method of generating traffic. If he chose to just stick with ad campaigns and it STILL didn't work, then shouldn't he switch to a different method? This is like saying Thomas Edison chose to use the wrong filament 10,000 times and continuously got it wrong instead of choosing different filaments to test it out with.

The thing with Facebook is that when you're in a BUYING mood you don't really search for what you need in FB. You tend to veer towards Amazon and Google. A Reuters survey earlier in 2012 that I looked at found that only 20% of people questioned had said they actually BOUGHT something directly from seeing it on FB.

My take is that it can be a good branding tool, but if you're looking for conversions there's probably better bang for your buck elsewhere.

I will said depend your target market , some just reach the wrong target market .
If you see the thing you want at the right time and right place, conversion is still happen.

Travel , foods and entertainment business make well marketing in Facebook by building their brand name and even turn them to their customers. Facebook is getting stronger for business use while you can see lot of promote your status, promote your facebook ads and soon all of it even customize with only show with users that base on age, location, interest, languages and so on.
It help you target closer to your niche.

You nailed it perfectly. This is what I wanted to say. Taking a step back doesn't mean quitting, but rather, opening up opportunities for success. With the Thomas Edison example, he took a step back and he used different materials for his lightbulb. He probably thought that remaking the lightbulb with the same materials over and over again is a lost cause, so he opened up possibilities.

    Hi wordpressmania!

I think Facebook is still a great avenue for marketing. If you just know how to use facebook ads properly, nothing will go wrong. In the facebook ads section, you are able to identify your target market and get specific information such as demographics, interest, and likes.

You just have to do market research firs before releasing it in facebook. Check if the market you are targeting has the propensity to pay for your products and services.

I've done quite well with it. I've spent a little over $500 over the last 4 months and had about an additional thousand or so "likes" as a result. half of my monthly income is generated from my fb page so I'd say it's worth it, especially since the likes are targeted.
The programs I sell are high priced so it doesn't take many sales to make a significant profit.

As far as I think FB is not faiding but their new strategy is surely hampering their popularity. Payment for the fan pages are so much irritating.

I think Facebook is becoming more complex to maintain. They change their settings and layout or API very often and it become hard to maintain for normal user.

Dude look at their stocks lol They are fading away. I see some of you guys saying they are getting stronger but you have to understand people are spending less time on Facebook because advertisers will make less money. Facebook is losing its value....mainly after the timeline update

I don't know, I think Facebook is slightly fading as a way to bring in business and advertise. The consensus with all of my friends and business colleagues is that they don't want to be bombarded with ads on their feeds, especially on their mobile feeds. Facebook is a place to "stalk" your friends and tons of people are on it so it would make sense that it would be a good marketing tool, however, I think there are other sites out there that are more designed for aggressive marketing of business services and products. Also, has anyone else noticed that the CPC rates of facebook have gone up since it went through its IPO? It is no where close to being as expensive as google adwords but it is no where close to being as effective. Also, the promoted posts have really ruffled some feathers with clients and regular users who see Facebook as a "free" way to advertise. The fact is, nothing is free in life and nothing lasts forever but I think people will still flock to facebook they just don't want to see an add for soap, walmart or hemorrhoid cream all the time.

You must have done poor and ineffective marketing strategies, that's why you don't get good results from facebook marketing.

From what I get on the news, Facebook is (at best) doing everything to tackle its mobile challenge. Its performance on Wall Street does seem dismal but it didn't seem like that was ever a major concern for Zuckerberg (perhaps until now because I honestly cannot tell much).

My guess is that I can only imagine the struggle that must be waging inside when it comes to using its database without angering either its users or its business customers.

As far as marketing on the actual network goes, there's definitely a strong consensus that it's more suitable for some industries and not others. It's no LinkedIn though, that much I'm sure of.
