Cancel Facebook account

Just deleted mine. Not 'suspended' but Deleted, with a capital D. Too "big brother" for my taste. Good way to kick off 2013.

Has anyone else Deleted theirs? How long ago? Why? How's the withdrawal?

Regards,

I've deleted my FB account before 1 year! It's nothing but a time waste.
My my time is money for me! So I don't want to lose money.

I agree with you guys that Facebook is a waste of time though people say it is a good source to remain connected with friends.

I have thought of doing it once back in October, but changed my mind later. I can't imagine deleting it since I have a lot of friends who I connect to through this account. Everything would be lost if I delete it.

Why would you want to delete your Fb account? Millions of people on there which means a lot of opportunity to market your self and product.

I have a facebook account and do not use it, except to monitor what people are talking about and products that they recommend. This way I can create a product or recommend an affiliate product.

Do you at least twitter or G+?

Agreed, there are a lot of opportunities on Facebook. Instead of deleting your account, just depersonalize it.

Deleting Facebook will have a negative impact on you, I know from experience.. you can limit your info... and the big brother issue is no different then using any other social media site... I would suggest keeping it.. cheers

The big brother paranoia is overrated, who so special you think you are that someone is interested in you - as long as you are just as casual, law abiding individual just as the next guy ? And if "they" want to know something about you they WILL get that info, even if you go live in the woods...

Meanwhile it is up to you how you choose to use the media, yes it is media, social media - you can choose to waste your time there or you can make use of it - both communicationally and as means of promotion/business.

P.S. The withdrawal will come to you in the next few days

when fb first became popular after myspace downfall i had an account for a few months but delted it. i have several fake accounts that i use for marketing though as its too critical to reaching customers and you cant have a business page without a personal page as far as i know

I didn't think you could delete it. Isn't it just suspended until you want to open it again?

Regarding Facebook. I find it a waste of time, but only because I cannot make head nor tail of how it works. My family are experts, but make me feel dumb when I tell them I don't know what I am doing.

As I would like to use Facebook for marketing, I really do need to get to grips with it, so no deleteing for me:-(

  • I wonder what the percentage is of people who delete their facebook account to those who recover it later.

I swear - I have about 5 friends a week threaten to 'DELETE THEIR ACCOUNT BECAUSE OF ALL THE DRAMA' only to bring it back a week and a half later.

Facebook has them by the throat.

I will lose the future customers.

Unless you have a service or product to sell then I completely agree. For example I don't own a personal account or have any friends on Facebook. I only have a fan page for my business which brings in money (new clients) and I spend zero time on it besides posting maybe once a week. I strongly dislike social media for personal use, but a business should be listed on it.

WOW what an overwhelming amount of responses! Haven't been on here in 4 days, and already so much feedback A few observations over the past 96 hours:
      • Facebook withdrawal is a real thing. This tells me that quitting while I'm ahead is a good thing. No smoker has ever had an easier time quitting 3 years after starting to smoke, vs. 1 year after starting. Thus, I'm glad I did it now, instead of later.
      • All the time I used to spend on Facebook (2-3 hrs a day cumulative, I would say) I now spend on books, articles, and... well, I'll admit, other social media, but instead of pointless banter by acquaintances I caught up on my Wimp, Digg, Reddit, etc.
      • They really do have you by the nuts when it comes to leaving. I see it like this: it takes guts to leave the party earlier, drive home safely before 2am while the music plays until 4am. But staying out late comes at the expense of your sanity. I'm 20 g-ddang years old. I need all the sanity I can keep. But you know how hard it is for a 20-year-old to flip the bird on 1,400 Facebook friends?

I got sick yesterday. Not sure if due to FB withdrawal, or going to a festival 2 days ago Probably a bit of both.

Oh, it has. Mindlessly hitting Ctrl+T and typing in 'facebook.com' and seeing the blue logo... and then the memory of "ahh, right right right, no more..."

While a legitimate concern, it's actually one of the reasons I quit. 2 weeks ago, I created a discussion board for a client. Nothing serious, just a phpBB installation. His reason for it was because he told me he wanted 'control' and I said he will never have any on Facebook. So, I made him his own community. I then realized that there wasn't much that I would miss out on, if I don't log back into this personal community of my own... so I just said f*** it

Probably very high. They give you 14 days to change your mind. Surely, not a randomly-chosen number; I wouldn't be surprised if people crack by day 13, just because they don't want to lose all their photos and videos. Which reminds me... I don't want to lose my photos or videos... if I could pay someone to get them all downloaded and printed, for a physical album, then I would love that!

If you suspend it, then yes. Recently, they let you delete it, but there is still that 14-day rule (if you log in, your account gets reinstated).
