Building a relationship with your list is VERY IMPORTANT – that’s OLD news. What’s breaking news is HOW we’re going to do that in 2013.

A bright, better and MORE PROFITABLE way, what I call the…

Total Engagement TRIFECTA

I’ve been testing this for a while now and am literally BLOWN AWAY at how EASY it is to use social media to engage my subscribers and build (let alone maintain) relationships with them.

What I lovingly call the “total engagement TRIFECTA” REALY is using social media to engage and build a lasting relationship with my list.

That’s it.

Anyone who knows even the BASICS of “internet marketing” and “email marketing” KNOWS that a positive relationship with your subscribers as the KEY DIFFERENCE between email marketing paydays… and utter failure.

So BUILD THAT RELATIONSHIP – there is no easier way to do it than what I’ll share with you now. So, follow along.

Here’s How to do it:

We will now be using social media to build a relationship with our list, quickly and easily.

We will be using…

• A BLOG
• A Facebook FAN PAGE
• A Facebook Group

The BOLG:

Easy-peasy.

You want a WordPress blog and this is even BETTER if you host it on your own domain name. In fact, for this, that’s important so I will assume from here on that it IS on your own domain name.

Installing it and finding a theme is easy using your host’s control panel and there are tons of free themes. This isn’t a tutorial on building BLOGS so I’ll leave it at that. There are TONS of BLOG tutorials out there if you need help. YouTube is our friend here.

What this IS about is building relationships with subscribers so here we go.
All your need to do is write a short article or even a tip and post it to the BLOG 3 times a week or so. When you do, email blast your list with an email that promotes the BLOG post.

Here’s an example…

SUBJECT: [BLOG POST] Sneaky new trick I Use to get Traffic From Tumblr…

BODY:

Dear name,

I just wrote a new BLOG POST about a little trick I use to get free traffic from Tumblr. The best part is, this method doesn't cost me any money. It is totally free.

If you’re not using Tumblr, you should read why you’re leaving money on the table.

Nobody uses Tumblr and it blows my mind.

Don’t be a fool like everyone else, get on this!

===> LINK: www.link_to_post.com

Enjoy!

Best,

Ben Pedersen
That’s it!

This works wonders and when you start seeing comments from your subscribers (you will – I do) simply respond to them.

BINGO! You’ve now got your list engaged.

The PROOF is in the comments!

Keep this up and 2013 will be a good year.

FACEBOOK FAN PAGE:

You should have a Facebook fan page. Again, this isn’t a Facebook tutorial but there are plenty of free ones out there. Again… our ally, YouTube.

You want to post new TIPS on your Fanpage EVERYDAY. These can be quick tips or links to your BLOG POSTS made above. In fact, do both.

I do.

This is similar to above. When you post new TIPS, email your list and tell them about it. Not only will you get more “likes” but subscribers will also comment on your posts and will even flow over to your blog.

Keep up on these comments and this is the second way to engage your list and build that relationship.

Now as for emailing your lists when you make new posts, I don’t do it EVERYTIME because I am posting everyday. What I’ll do is email my list about a new post on my Fanpage on days when I DON’T email them about BLOG posts.

This works because we’re not bombarding them with emails, yet they’re still engaging with the Fan page.

In full disclosure I JUST started doing this with my “internet marketing” lists, although I’ve done it for quite some time with my “weight loss” and “back pain” businesses. There’s no other reason WHY I didn’t use Facebook for my “IM” stuff other than the fact that I was both busy and lazy.

But, I am doing it now and seeing great results – as I have in the other markets for some time.

If you employ this strategy combined with the BLOG POSTING, you’ll have a good year in 2013.

Lastly,

Facebook GROUPS

You should start a Facebook Group in your Niche. More and more people are doing this because it WORKS.

That being said, the time to do it is NOW.

Start a group in your NICNE. For example, in the “IM” space there are many “niches”, right?

Suppose you have a product about PPV, which is kind of making a comeback these days.

You’d start a Facebook Group about PPV and invite your lists to join it. It needs to be FREE of course.

The cool thing about this method is, once they join the group they can socialize with other members but YOU control the discussion. YOU create the posts within your group and let the other members discuss the topic of the posts, jumping in yourself of course.

This establishes YOU as the king-pin of your topic in the eyes of your subscribers – exactly what you want.

Once a week, email your list, telling them about new topics in your Facebook Group and invite them to join it.

Do this…. 2013 will be a very good year.

So, there you have it… the “Total Engagement TRIFECTA”.

If you combine the above social media campaigns into your email marketing you WILL build better relationships with your subscribers by offering more VALUE.

They are more than willing to pay you back in dividends for that VALUE because they can’t find it elsewhere (very few others put in the effort to do this).

Implement this and…. YUP, 2013 will be a VERY good year.

    Nice post.

Building relationships profitably can be about what you
have to sell or how you can create profits from the
    relationships you build.

In other words if you have a service that you charge
$5,000 for and most of that price is profit to you then
you can afford to go way beyond replying to posts on
    your blog.

You can engage in personal emails with your contacts
and work on escalating the level of contact up to talking
on the phone and even in person if that's possible.

You might use faxes and good old fashioned snail mail
    too.

Anything that builds relationships in more depth is likely
to make your list of contacts far more profitable for you.

But it's hard to be profitable if all you're selling is a $7
    ebook.

Thinking through a full product and service funnel or doing
joint ventures with people who have a full funnel and are
willing to pay you substantial commissions on clients you
bring them is a huge key.

    Kindest regards,
    Andrew Cavanagh

This is a great post. Mostly people just send emails about their products or the affiliate links hoping to earn some money. The main thing is to get connected and engaged with your email list. If you give your subscribers some value and importance it is a great chance that you can sell the products to them in future.

The great thing with this method is you're coaching/supporting/making friends & marketing all at the same time. If your list has already purchased from you, this is a great vehicle to support your product and keep that trust alive.

    Great Post Ben.

    Cheers mate.

I'm all for a blog where people cannot post their own affiliate links. I've recently deleted my FB account. I really do not find much value in knowing who is in a relationship with who, or seeing pictures of people's dogs.

I am seriously considering old school direct mail (postcard) marketing...with a web address...to an opt in list...for the biz I am joining.

You have a great strategy. Maybe I should revisit Facebook. Regards.

Yeah, I'm talking about a FAN PAGE as opposed to a profile page like those we have for personal use.

Dude... direct mail? Post cards to landing pages? That's part ofy dance too! Has been for over 10 years.

Did you see my other post I made a couple days ago?

It's called "Why I'm telling Google to piss off".

I'd copy the URL and paste it here but on my phone, that's a PITA. If you search for threads I started, surely you' ll see it.

I might be the exception, but I buy a lot of stuff online and mostly through sellers' affiliate links in emails. I don't have a problem with it. If someone gives me a good tip on a decent product, I'm going to use his/her affiliate link when I buy.

But I can definitely do without the "let's get familiar" nonsense. I just want good tips and timely. It pisses me off when someone sends me a late email about a good offer that is going fast on a dimesale and I see in the email a ton of non-related info about their trips and their kids, yadda yadda....

But like I said, maybe I'm an exception to that "build a relationship" stuff. It must work on some people, no doubt.

You say that if someone gives you a good tip than you have no issue buying from them.

      I agree... and that's why what I outline a o e works.

I build relationships with my lists by offering them useful blog post, tips and other stuff.

That translates into VALUE, for which they'll reciprocate... Just as you do when you buy from an affy link.

Now as far as "kids, trips and dogs go".... well I'm a nice guy but I could give a rats ass, unless they're my OWN then I care a lot, and expect everyone else too as well: HAHA ;-)

Many people on my list feel the same way. They love the reviews, but hate the help and even go so far as to complain about the freebie relationship builders.

Yet some love it and ask for help. They get it and they love me because they are making money. So I think you have to know your list.

I was told by the King of copy that the two most important words when selling anything are you and your.. Reason being some people just don't care about me and my results. They like good copy and they like to buy stuff.

I think people nowadays have become used to everyone pretending to be an expert and offering really cool free help and emails. What they want is someone to sell them. That is why they go to that over crowded inbox everyday. They go there to be sold. They may not want to, but they do.

Just a note about my list and things I have seen relating to Joan's comments. That said this is a great post and full of awesome info. I would go so far as to ad a twitter account just because it helps with today's SEO but really good stuff . It is the next big wave being ridden by most mid range marketers right now and it is effective. Nice Work Ben.

Build a relationship does not mean to share your pics, or where you went on vacations and what you did on Christmas. In my opinion it is to share those tips or those strategies which you have learned with your experience so that others can benefit from that. That is the reason I said that give them value and importance by sharing those things which have helped you and it can help others.
