Is Google Authorship Really That Hard?

I've been bombed today with offers about a new WP plugin, been told that setting up google authorship is...

"It is a long and tedious process to get Google Authorship, BUT not with
today's product of the day. This is software that will create authorship
for ALL of your pages, posts, and complete sites."

I'm just getting into all this new social stuff, g+, authorship, is it really that hard or is this just another must have plugin of the day!

From what I've read it only takes a couple of minutes manually to set it up, what am I missing here

My guess is that there are a lot of people out there who can't do these simple tasks.

The Wordpress interface is not the easiest to use, and has spring-loaded boobytraps for those used to better systems.

My big question about this is how do you operate the system if you have multiple blogs in different niches?, what will it look like if you are say the author of articles on dog training and trading stocks?, should you create multiple authorship accounts?

Well, I'm not new on the block, but after jumping though all the hoops for Google I didn't get my authorship right. I gave it a break until I had the time to go back for a second go at it.

Google adds in a step where you can see if you've done it right: and I hadn't :-(

So, no: it's not entirely straightforward - LOL.

One diffuculty for me is that after years of opening multiple accounts on every social network you can imagine, Google have set things up so it's nice and easy for one person with one profile for all of Gmail, Google+, YouTube, but when you have dozens of Google accounts and you've interlinked them extensively it gets to make your head hurt.

So, yes, you can claim two authorships but you will need to have a separate G profile with no email address which is linked to both profiles. And, similarly, if you link a YT account to one profile that cannot have an email linked to it which is linked to the other, etc etc.

So, in short: if you've been a good marketer with one account at each place it's pretty easy.

If you have been a naughty marketer at any time, setting up a bunch of profiles for various reasons it can complicate matters.

It can't be so hard as to buy a plugin, come on! All you have to do is add ANYWHERE in your theme a link to your G+ profile, then in G+ interface just add your site url in the field "also contributes to" something like that.
And, that's it. Really. Don't believe me? It's true.

Look how I did it at one site, my site is best-reviewer.com I added a link at the bottom of my theme (it's drupal, not wordpress but that works the same) with my name as anchor and linking to my g+ profile. Then in my g profile I edited and added best-reviewer as one of the sites I contribute to. And that's it. Now my face shows up in google search results:

At least I see it, you should too, I'm the guy pointing to the right (my left)

You've missed a couple of important steps out but you're pretty much
right. If your technically minded then, no, YOU don't need a plugin to
do this... or most other things I would imagine. BUT if you happen to
not be particularly technically inclined... or maybe you just can't be
bothered... then yes a plugin can help.

At the end of the day, it's 'horses, for courses'

      Take care

Maybe I left some steps out, but I didn't do it intentionally. This is from memory without re-reading the page I've used. Musn't be hard to find, I'll search for it..

In fact there is a story about verifying the email address, probably I did that too, can't remember, but really it wasn't rocket science.
I can understand the need for a plugin only if one doesn't know and can't be bothered to learn how to add a By NAME on his template.
But even for that, you don't have to put it on your template files, you can simply add it in a block that is displayed on all your article pages.
