Google Plus is slowly creeping up on Facebook...but with Facebook rolling out GraphSearch I don't know if Google+ can catch them. However, that said, Facebook has just changed their "promoted posts" for Fan Pages. It used to be only $5-$10, $10 being that you could reach 11k people.

Now in order to reach 11k people, you're going to have to spend $50! With such a drastic change, people may get fed up with Facebook...I know I am.

Youtube will definetly rocks this year not as video sites but as search engine...Google hangout is very popular, it is often use for affiliates,..facebook graphsearch sucks big time!..my fan page that should be promoted in 20-35 years old people are marketed to 10-17 Years Old.

      The price is not worthy...

I think Facebook could stay the king ding-a-ling in social for quite some time. IF they offer premium services for Page owners AND get Timeline apps visible on mobile devices. It's hard to make a case for Timeline apps when over half of the traffic on Facebook is mobile now. IMHO

Tumblr has never really been a favorite of mine. I guess I just do not fully understand it. Do you just post pics of things? I do not have an account, but yet when I click on things that lead me back to tumblr, all I often see is an image. What do I have to do to get content for that image? I have tried clicking on it and nothing really happens.

In my opinion, there will always be a few social networks coming up in some time and gaining multitudes of popularity, but eventually FB will remain a giant in the social media space. That doesn't mean there aren't any promising social networks, it just about mass popularity, high momentum, and appealing features that are essential for anything "social media" to come up as a winner.

I hear good stuff about Pheed

As for Tumblr - a lot of younger kids use it - its lazy very easy to "like" and reblog content - don't forget you can set that up to feed your twitter and facebook profiles, so kids can integrate it.

I think we're set for a while. Social media is my primary source of content, income, etc. -- so I study it very closely. While Google+ may be getting larger by the day, I don't see it ever touching the likes of YouTube, Twitter and Facebook.

Yesterday, without even thinking about it, I used:
    Google Search
    Google Adwords
    Google Translator
    Google Talk
    Google Music
    Google Voice
    Google Reader
    Google Calendar
    YouTube (Owned by Google)
Talk, Texted, and used data on my Android Galazy SIII (Owned by Google)

So I thought, why not monetize what I'm already doing?

Some of the functionality is similar, about.me is kind of a general purpose thing about the individual. Social.me's focus is on your social networks exclusively, for people who are active on multiple networks and want others to be able to find them across them all. And it has analytics to track views and visitors to your social pages.

It's the ideal one to put on a business card since you can't fit a Facebook/Twitter/Google+/LinkedIn/etc. on a card. People who haven't even heard of social.me instantly know what to expect there.

There's also an unspoken SEO benefit... the profiles rank quickly, and the 'expertise tags' are do-follow backlinks to your blog or website.

From what I'm seeing, I believe Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube will still be reigning over the social media sites circle for the coming years. But then, I don't have a crystal ball, so I can't really say for certain. Facebook and Twitter are still strong, and YouTube still get lots and lots of traffic. And they are always on the news and used by other entertainment media sites so they are always kept updated. I think Instagram is slowly gaining steam though. So does Tumblr and Pinterest.

Keek is okay, they are failing at keeping people connected who follow you/subscribe - having no feed and just sending out emails which will lose them many people including myself.

There will be something BIG like Pinterest that will be making its way - websites like Keek have been done already they just copied and brought in the Kardashian's promoted it heavily & that's the reason why you know about it today.

It's not hard to say "hey let's make a video version of Twitter, or hey let's make an animation version of Instagram" those are basics - the next big social network should be thinking completely outside of the box just like Pinterest & Tumblr isn't bad either.

Facebook is perilously close to jumping the shark. Young people don't like it because their parents are on there also, and FB is rapidly becoming an old fogey network. Lots of older folks use it the way we used long distance phone calls thirty years ago -- get all your old friends and extended family on there, post messages and photos, and there you go.

Nice place to be if you are selling reverse mortgages or life or health insurance but in danger of becoming as irrelevant as network television if it keeps jamming people's walls with ads, and overcharging marketers for placing ads.

For me this crap about charging a dollar to make sure all your friends see your post is just about the last straw. Now I cannot even post my latest Youtube video to my wall to get a little bump in traffic without having to pay for it? WTF?

The only reason Facebook is still the biggest social network is because no one has come up with a better alternative -- but it will happen.

I don't think websites like pinterest will live long . I see people following 3000+ people and having 100+ followers instead. What is the point of that? I've used it for a week and then got bored with it ... Even my girlfriend who is a fashion freak got fed up with all the pics posted there and agrees that it's a waste of time.

I think Google+ , Google+ is being used now more for business . Users got used to Facebook and they prefer it becuase all their friends and family are on it, it’s a great platform to socialize, while Google+ is being used for quick indexing more than socializing. you can still engage with your customers on Google+ but it won’t be as powerful as Facebook.

I think it depends on what you mean by social media channel. Social Media is not just one channel.

True Social Network: Facebook going forward (aka unlikly to lose this spot)
Social Video: Youtube going forward (They have had this locked for ages)
    Celeb/News Social: Twitter
    Web Sharing Social: Reddit
Social Picture Sharing: Pinterest (Instagram is still in this game too)(can Facebook take this from them?)
Social Network that everyone is on but no one uses: Google Plus. Google is making everyone a part of it but no one is using it's core features.

My biggest point is that google may be the 10,000 lbs beast but they can't make people change. Apple tried this with Maps on the iiPhone and all we did was piss and moan till Google Brought their maps back. Once people are used to using something and it works well it is theirs and theirs alone to lose. Google can force the entire internet to use google plus. It can become the "biggest" social network on the planet and no one will care because everyone will still be using the networks they want to use.

Google will hype the hell out of Google plus and will continue to for years. But stop and ask yourself when you use it? When do you friends use it? It is there and we are all "using" it but very few are actually trying to use it. That's not a social network, that is google being annoying. And if Bing was better that kind of annoying could hurt them.

EDIT: If you want to know which social media channels will be hot next you need to hang out on the right forums. Hang out places like the Vesti, 4chan, etc on the edge of the underground and you will see the rise of sites years in advance. Like I said I was on Myspace and Facebook years before most but not using them. Same with youtube. That is where the early adopters and influencers are.

Personally I believe the next big thing. The one we will be talking about in 2015 and 2016 will be pure mobile. Social is leaving the computer behind and this is the point where Facebook could lose. That and the fact that Facebook hasn't been "cool" or "hip" since like 06.

Now YT channel is more user friendly and customizable design which fit both traditional computers and smart devices. This is truly an amazing feat since YouTube users can grab more subscribers easily.

Second FB. Facebook have really imprinted their brand in the minds of every netizen. What my grandma always says when I talk about the internet is the word "Facebook". Facebook is a brand now, and can never be erased in the minds of the people. Just like toothpaste, when you ask what is the best toothpaste to consumers, their answers is usually Colgate.

I think it's a good time to get on Pinterest. Reason being, it exploded primarily through the US, and had a very big user base. Over the last few months it has been creeping up more into the Oceania areas (Australia, New Zealand).

I think once Pinterest starts making rounds in the UK (more predominantly, then Germany, France etc). You'll see a lot of IM money circling around.
