FB Case Study: $52 Reaches 72,000 People

I'm impressed with Facebook Ads. Check this out.

Started a page on Friday and spent $52 over the weekend. I now have 2,512 Likes and a reach of 72K! Plus I'm getting massive engagement and viral action.

Try building a website and getting that many people to see it in three days over a weekend!

That sounds great but you can do it even cheaper if you contact any page to promote yours

    Those are great results.

Are you going to keep the ad campaign going?

      Definitely.

I'll post more screen captures tomorrow. Here's one six hours apart from the first.

I changed the image for the ad and cut my CPM from 68 cents to 19 which is pushing a lot more traffic today. I cut the 'Sponsored Stories' that they turn on by default too - which seems to have lowered the costs a bit too. I also tightened the age up.

I'm loving the controls Facebook has and the massive audience!

You can see it's growing even in the last few hours. I'm particularly happy with the 'People Talking About This' growth. They're pushing this onto their own walls fast.

The whole account? No idea. They banned one of my ads on Friday. They made me log in and read their 'community standards.' There was a warning that said any more malfeasance and they would ban me. So I cleaned up my act quick

So for anyone reading this: you can't just post a 'butt shot' for your ad. It had a 16.8% CTR an 5 cent CPM but must have been reported quickly.

Did you use real account for the ad?

I've never seen a banned account like that. What did the content look like in your ad?

If you don't mind saying what niche are you in? You can be broad, I'm more just curious to relate niche to the results you're seeing. Thanks

Nice results, may I ask what niche your in with that fanpage? (Just out of curiosity)

    The niche is "Popular Music."

Here is an updated screen capture.

As you can see the 'Friends of Friends' has fleshed in at an impressive 1/2 MILLION people. The 'Talking About This Page' number keeps rising. My last share from last evening had 256 Likes/56 shares and 7K views.

this was a normal ripple effect before FB killed it and only pass on who paid $$...

u know what, once u stop paying $$ to FB, no matte how many millions your page has, this ripple effect will not come back

also, if ur ads are on some HOT regions, be sure to check if your Likes are not from BOTs, checks those ppl who liked your page, if they are like 3000X Likes but no profile, no status, no friends... u are paying $$ to get a lot of bots to like your page...

I have a ad going on FB and the link goes directly to my website. One problem is you click the link and it says my site may be spam. Are you sending this to your site? or are you sending this to your fanpage?
Im getting impressions but not getting many clicks. I also advertising to a 500k target. Thanks for any advise you can give me.

I think it's a huge waste to send them to your page directly.

You get a lower conversion rate that way.

Would you click on an ad that warns people a site is spam? I wouldn't! Send them to a Fan Page first and collect their Likes. Then make updates related to their interests. Then when you have a big crowd you can send them to offers that are DIRECTLY related to their interests.

When I post my affiliate links - people actually thank me and share

I'm prepared to keep paying for traffic to the page. I built it with a profit motive and a revenue model so the whole idea should be self-sustaining.

Robots don't share posts 826 times like they did last night These are definitely real people who are Liking, Sharing, Commenting.

Six days later. The spend has been reduced to $5 per day. Check out the Friend Of Friends reach. Over 28K have been reached virally now - lowering the blended costs of the campaign. I also saw my first small conversion on Amazon so the page now has a conversion rate firming up.

Hi Barry, when you sent them to your fan page, did you have a landing page built into your fan page or just to your wall of your fan page?

    Just a quick followup.

You'll notice the Dip after I stopped paying for ads...now after more time has passed the paid traffic is being replaced with all viral traffic.

All you have to do is 'seed' the page with paid traffic and make sure your fans are really engaging. The rest takes care of itself.

Yes indeed. I don't have time to volunteer to run a Fan Page

Always select a Fan Page with an obvious commercial application. Let's face it: almost all popular subjects have plenty of monetization options.

I've been using a 90/10 rule. 90 percent of the posts don't include any links to affiliate plans. The other 10% do. Overall I'm running 6 pages right now with around 60 updates daily. That means 6 of the posts I make daily have a 'monetization scheme' built in.

As you can imagine this builds up a decent amount of traffic over time.

If you're using Amazon don't forget about the effect I call the 'Facebook Cookie Lottery Ticket.' It's pretty easy to get people to click through to Amazon from Facebook. Once they do a 24 hour cookie is set (unless they visit another link and have it overwritten). You get a commission on ANYTHING they buy. Since people do a lot of shopping at Amazon you can 'win the lottery' and get commissions on big orders.

Most people working as Amazon affiliates focus on 'writing reviews' and using SEO traffic. Sure, that traffic is warmed up - which is good. I'm focused on just pushing more people into there, appending my affiliate ID, and then getting paid a commission. Most days I'm sending between 2,200 to 6,500 people in - so conversion rates being low doesn't worry me too much.

Barry, awesome case study and I guess this is the true power of Facebook.

You placed your strategy pretty well with 90/10.

I did something different though. It was a different experiment I did for my list.
