Facebook beginner's question

Hi,

I must admit I always refused Facebook and know nothing about it. Now somebody told me I really need it for a business I am about to start.

I read so many things on the Internet about FB now that I am totally confused.

Do I need a page, a business page, a brand, a fan page?

I would just present my business there, and do not want to connect my real name with it. That means who searches for my real name should not find my business.

Where do I start?

Thanks

Hi Dan, you can start by creating a business page and your personal account should not be linked to it unless you post on your page while under personal account name. Also, your personal account will always be your admin manger but that is confidential.

Facebook is a great marketing portal for a business, I would suggest starting a Fan Page as well, make sure you create relevant content, post and material specifically related to your business and you will build fans.

    Cheers,

      Thanks both,

that was more helpful than all the bla bla pages on the subject

Do I need a personal page at all? Or can I just create a business page and connect a fan page?

I still can't get used to the idea posting what I do.

Like yesterday I did not want to go to a boring party and used the excuse I would go on a week-end trip. But I stayed at home since it was raining heavily and if I had then posted on FB I had a nice evening at home making music, the party host would probably be embarassed that I did not join their boring party.

I can only see that FB would make my life more complicated with a personal page. What do you think?

Dan I would not think that you need a personal page. I would stick with a personal page and a fan page if you are not comfortable in having a personal page. If you feel that it is too complicated to have a personal page, then do not do it. If you create one and do not use it, then it will just be a waste of your time and effort.

As long as you don't "like" your own business page on your own individual Facebook profile, then your true name will not be associated with the page. You can do brand/fan/business page, and you can be the admin of the page without revealing your name. When you do post to your business page, you would be posting as the business name of the page.

It may be easier to setup a new Facebook account just for your business, because you would have to switch between your individual and business profile when you access Facebook.

You need a Fan Page. But more importantly, you need a purpose on what to do with your Fan Page.

I suggest, you invest in an autoresponder and have it plugged in your Fan Page. Fans are useless if you don't have a Call to Action.

    Hi Dan,

I have read through this thread and so I am answering all your queries here. Facebook can be confusing when starting out. There is a lot of information to help you, but it can lead to overwhelm and not knowing what to do for the best. In order to have a Fanpage (business page) you have to have a personal profile page first because that is what allows you to set up business pages - they have to be generated from your account, unless somebody else is creating the page for you.

You do not need to worry about people on your personal page knowing about your business page, you can use the settings to keep it completely separate. If you do not want to post on a personal page and connect with friends, you don't have to, you can just use it to be able to set up a business page. When you have a Fanpage, you need to add relevant content that will attract visitors, who will get to know, like and trust you. Hope that helps.

You can have a fan page for involving people and/or a brand page to increase brand popularity, just like a business card. for fan page, don't forget to update content with something fresh and engaging and also connected to your business.

you can create facebook page with different email id either yahoo, gmail etc or personal webmail id and keep it separate as that's the best way to split personal account and business page.

Also if you are a local business or service provider you can create facebook ad with geo targeting to you city people and that will gives you a boost. I'm confident because I'm doing that right now.

Hi Dan, I don't know whether it help you or not. If you don't want to reveal your identity, then why not create an additional facebook account for this purpose alone? You can use that account for all of your business purpose in facebook.
